Has anyone experienced hiking a mountain? I did this mountain (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Banahaw) twice: first time it was with mom; second is I was alone, actually, I was with my two cousins, but they declined to continue on the day of our trek. I just did it for a day.
That's really neat! I did a five night - four day trek in the Grand Canyon's primitive section. But no mountains as of yet.

I've done Harney Peak (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harney_Peak) in South Dakota.
Of course, I didn't do this when conditions were optimal...nooo... As we drove there, we were driving really slowly because it was close to white out it was snowing so hard. We considered turning around, but it let up by the time we got to the parking lot.
At the top the wind was blowing really hard. I took 1 glove off to open my sandwich bag, and by the time I got the sandwich out of the bag and put my glove back on, my hand was hurting from the cold. It was extreme.

Wow! A Five night and a four day trek in the canyons. Tell us more of the experience, and where geographically did you spent it?

How long did it take to reach the tower? Were you able to go inside?

I don't quite remember how long it took. I'd say a few hours for sure. We were able to go inside... We were DYING to get inside...no wind inside some parts of the tower.
The wind was COLD!!
You ask, why don't you have any pictures to prove you were there?? It was so cold electronics would not work.
My best guest was the wind chill brought it around -30F to -40F

Whoa, that was seriously cold! And you say that was not optimal.
Was there a difficult climb, a steep portion where you have to use ropes?
Were you able to see the scenery below and around with that condition?

The climb isn't "difficult" in the way to use ropes...or those poor monks never would have gotten that firetower built.
There is a nice trail going up the mountain, most people can make this given enough time. Probably not for those with weak hearts, but if you go slowly, I'd say even some children and elderly would be able to make it. It does take the better part of a day.
A buddy of mine did "longs peak" in Colorado. I would like to do that one one day.
Rock climbing with ropes is something I'd love to get into. My buddy and I used to traipse around the Black hills climbing up rock faces in which we probably should have had ropes.
Scenery, yes... you can see plenty of scenery. I think they say you can actually see 4 states from that point.

Yeah, vey nice to experience. I would probably die of excitement when given a chance to those places. A jog to the mountains in bare foot or climbing rock faces. Just couldn't imagine the feeling that you are in the top of the world.
But there will be a time for me... when the millenium comes. :yay:
