View Full Version : How do you find OLD threads??

Not as if we really want to be resurrecting a BUNCH of old threads, but at times, people want to refer back to things already discussed so they don't need to be rehashed.

So you start browsing through the forums, but you can't find it? WHAT DO YOU DO???

Well, there are a couple of ways to find it, but first, I will start by showing you, step by step, how to view older threads so that you can browse through them and find them.

CAVEAT: Please be discerning...sometimes it's best to let old dog...err.. threads lie.

Ok, having signed off on the caveat...let's begin!

1) Click "user cp" (you'll find this in the upperish left hand corner)
2) Click "Edit Options" (that's on the left...)
3) Scroll down to the 3rd section which is "Thread Display Options"
4) The last option there is "Default Thread Age Cut Off" and it is probably set on "Use Forum Default" This can be changed by clicking the little arrow to the right causing the select box to "drop down".

There are a number of options there for you to choose. The forum default for most sections is 1 month I'm told (thx Hotshot) so obviously selecting 2 weeks will not help you find old threads, but will cut down on clutter if you're a neat freak!

IF you click "view all threads" you obviously will be able to see every thread that was ever here.

NOW that you know how to do that... this will enable you to browse through any of the sections and see everything.

BUT WAIT!!! What if you know it's only in one particular group... say "Girl Talk" (as example)

So go ahead, click on the "girl talk" section.

NOW...scroll all the way down to the bottom. Under the "New Thread" button, you will see a small section called "Display Options"

You'll see various ways of sorting things, as well as..."FROM THE" which will have something there like "last month" or "beginning"

You can select more or less depending on your tastes at that particular juncture. Obviously to view older, select a longer time frame.

THERE!! We're DONE! Now you know how to find older threads by searching through all of them.

BUT WAIT!! That's kinda tedious isn't it??

Join us next time for.... "how to search the forums!! (an in depth guide to searching by Trevor)"

So, what in the world is necroing? You do realise when you write in strange tongues you need interpretation...

Apparently, it means bringing up an old thread and revitalizing it... just like has happened to this thread.

Consider this.

necro- or necr-pref.1. Dead body; corpse: necrophilia.
2. Death: necrobiosis.

[Greek nekro-, from nekros, corpse; see nek-1 in Indo-European roots.]

Now we are going to add the -ing to it. like in running it should mean doing that.

So it should follow by English Grammar rules, that

Necroing means corpsing or deading.

Yet our moderns, add -ing to it and instead of deading they get reviving the opposite. Huh? Did I miss something in my education or not?:confused:

I thought oppossite would be unnecroing.

Because it probably came from the word Necromancy instead of the Greek word nekros.
And necromancing something means bringing something that was dead back to life through unnatural forces.
Therefor, necromancing a topic means forcing it back to life.

NeedGod

but you realise the word necromancy probably came from the word necrophilia seeing as the meaning is similar, or the other way round, so it mihgt have been derived from one or the other.

necromancy is two greek words. Nekros meaning dead or death. Mantia meaning divination.
necrophilia comes from nekros again, and philia meaning strong desire.
you could probably say necrophobia means fear of dead bodies.
necrosis means to decay.

I can understand necromancing for a thread. But necroing, still does not make a sense:confused:. Unless one could define it as this:

To finally finish a thread off, or to end a thread once and for all.:aaaah:

For anything dealing with necro- seems to be around the death:(.

Necropolis - large cemetary. vs Metopolis - large city.

I am with how Bro. Trevor outline visiting an old thread, either to carry on the conversation instead of starting a fresh one that would be redundant, or to add something substantial to it. Consider our verbal conversations, a lot of them are rehash of the same old topics, we don't just always have a new topic, but add more to an old one.
