Back to school time is returning and so is the pressure to look the "hottest." It's about this time of year that reminds me how grateful I am that I no longer have those desires to find that "hot" look.

I remember a time in school when I was ashamed of my modest dress because I didn't look stylish. But I know that one day that changed for me. The desire of my heart was no longer to draw attention to my figure or stylish clothes, but to look like a lady- a Christian woman. I am so grateful that my desires are changed because a lust for wordly things can never give you the satisfaction that Christ can.

Totally. Even though I feel conspicuous in a skirt sometimes, I feel safer, because I know that guys are less likely to mess with me because I am not showing anything, thus not giving them an invitation to do it.

I have actually influenced a few of my female co-workers to wear skirt. From most of them, they are always conscious when they would wear one. Some of them do not even own a skirt or dress at all. Some wondered if it would be becoming for them to wear one. I told some of them that you are girls/ladies, you are supposed to wear skirts/dresses not jeans.....it is just society who dictates otherwise but in the bible that is not so.

Being in the popular group is not always a big issue in the philippines however I do understand how you feel cause during my school days...we were always an oddball, my sisters and I, cause we are wearing skirts or dresses when going to school and having long hairs. What I did was I would normally focus more on the academic side and by God's grace, I excelled in that and they would notice me more for that instead.

I can say right now that I am glad to be an oddball, I am not bothered by it anymore not like when I was still studying cause peer pressure was really frustrating if you would let them upset you.

There have been many people that I and my sisters have influenced to start wearing skirts. Postitive influence. They start wearing their hair long, and wearing more modest clothing. One of my fellow students showed up to school one day wearing a denim skirt, and she teased me (in a very nice way, she is almost like an older sister), that she was being me that day. It really is more becoming. Skirts hide a lot of flaws that pants would accentuate. Thank you Lord. :D

i am the only one at my job that wears skirts/dresses, and it is super difficult because the just dont want me too (they feel it is a "safety hazard", although i can hardly see that point valid)

but, i just wear them anyway! i've recently begun transforming all of my pants into skirts....i'm actually getting pretty handy with a sewing machine...i've been decorating and designing too...it's a lot of fun. who knows, maybe i can even sell something!

i havent made formal dresses before, but sarah (calledout) and i are going to start making jean skirts, other skirts, shirts and stuff and try to sell them....we dont know how well we'll do yet, but it will definately be fun trying!!!!!

That sounds interesting. I think that maybe someday I should like to make modest formal dresses to order. We will see how that works out. :D I know of two places that make formal dresses though. www.latterdaybride.com is one, and the other is www.beautifullymodest.com. They usually have some pretty good stuff. Keep in mind, latterdaybride is a mormon site, and so is beautifullymodest. They sure have some pretty dresses though.

well i have an idea...when your hubby goes out to work, you can fix him a nice meal ,put flowers on the table and put on your formal dress just as if you were going out to a restaurant or some fancy dinner ... and lay out a suit for him to wear when he gets home to make it more grand......doing little things like these once in a while should be lots of fun

SCRAP THEM?!!!! JUST THROW THEM AWAY?!!!! Give them to me, or re-do them. Or see if there is another sister in your church that might like them.

I like the idea of setting up a nice dinner. That is a smart idea. Just make sure he knows first, so that he can look forward to it. If you have kids, give them to a babysitter for the evening, so you can have a nice quiet evening alone.

The dinner Idea sounds like a good one, but to buy a dress just for a night like that, hmmm. I would have to find a sitter or my dress would have baby food all over it.

I bought a really nice dress for $1 at the Goodwill and haven't been able to wear it cause I'm still nurseing and it would be hard to do it in that dress.

blessed
01-07-2006, 07:06 PM
maybe you can find a sitter and wear something you already have, don't buy a new dress im sure that there is some grand dress that you have put away there

i guess it feels good to throw away clothes that are inappropriate. i buy second hand clothes and i have a hard time getting nice fitting clothes as the choice is not vast. and skirts are usually too short. this is since new clothes are so expensive. but believe it or not, i find it fun to shop because i get more joy when i find something which fits me than someone who can buy new clothes or than someone who buys second hand ttrousers and miniskirts which are in plenty.

vpiper
01-09-2006, 02:16 PM
it's hard to get rid of the inapproprate clothes, I feel bad giving them to an unbeliever or even just the goodwill(thrift store). But to just throw clothes away is hard too, what to do.

marichino_freedom
01-09-2006, 07:21 PM
i agree. it felt good to get rid of it, but at the same time, i wanted to hold onto it...even if i didnt wear it. it's still hard for me to change all of my jeans and pants into skirts too.

Babyruth
01-10-2006, 03:48 AM
I don't have anything innapropriate, I didn't before either because I have been in the Message. Also, my mom buys most of my clothes, so I wouldn't have any anyways. But I help package clothing to send overseas for my church and we get a lot of innapropriate stuff from donations from others in the community. We don't send them overseas, but we hate to give them to Goodwill because we don't want someone else to wear them. I agree, it's a tough decision.

NeedGod
01-10-2006, 09:11 AM
oh give your clothes to go overseas. that way, we get to buy them here in kenya. they comne as second hand clothes for the normal person and they arent as expensive as new clohes. i buy from such places as there is variety. give them out people, give them out.

you can get some of the best clothes at second hand stores.
Some girls die at the thought of wearing clothes other people have owned, second hand doesnt mean torn with holes fit to be a rag,- a lot of them have so much character, and hey vintage is totally in.

PLease send your measurements, plus your mailing address in a private message to me or whomever if you are interested in some clothes. I just cleaned out my closet and have a basketful of clothes that I am going to get rid of, plus I have 2 older sisters who periodically give me their stuff and sometimes I don't like it, and they have made it. I would love to give them to someone who would appreciate them.

the other day i was strolling around the mall and i saw this child with the ugliest boots on...they were horrible! my family might think i dress boring, but i would rather look "silly" in a long skirt than ugly boots!

oh, and does anyone watch american idol? i love watching the tryouts and laughing at some of these crazy people....there was one girl on there who was 17 and had a horrible shoe leather tan, bleached hair, and some sort of strange , show-a-lot-of-skin shirt...but the worst part was that her mother was trying to dress the same! she probably could barely walk in the tiny skirt she had on, and there was so much makeup on both of them you couldnt even see their eyes....is that fashion or what?!

american size 8?
i dont know exactly. my waist is 25 inches. well, so many people here offered to send me clothes and i appreciate. i will give most of them to brethren in church anyway. there are so many people here who sleep hungry and dont have money to buy clothes. people here are so poor i feel blessed to have the few clothes i have. i guess you could send them to this address. i posted it here so that whoever wanted could send. i told my someone and she said it was a good idea. i was unsure at first but it is a good idea as i saw people in church on sunday who needed clothes and that made me change my mind pronto.

i was at my sisters baby shower the other day and my neice looked at me and told me i needed to get with the fashion of the day....apparently, my socks were TOO colorful, my shoes were ugly, and i needed to wear some jeans (thank you miss fashionista). i told her i didnt care and why does it bother her if it doesnt bother me. it was pretty funny, cuz she looked at me and said "Duh, aunt mary! fashion is life! it's just ..... I like it that everyone feels the need to tell you what's wrong with you and how to fix it, as if they are certain you are unhappy with your life. If I was so unhappy, wouldn't I complain about it? I don't get it. Then, you tell them they should dress like a lady, and they aren't interested. Interesting, no?

You made me relise how blessed I really am. I come from canada and well for a canadian family my family is not rich. Sometimes we have a tuff time paying all the bills and stuff. But what I'm going to say I hope dose not sound like I'm lifting my self up. But I have a closet full of clothes and alot of shirts and there is this wedding coming up and I thought of getting a new top but you made me relise how blessed I am to have what I have. And just to see your careing additude of wanting others in you church to have some nicer clothes is really sweet. I don't know what it would be like to go to bed hungry or wonder where the food was going to come from the next day or that kind of a thing.
Just in church the other night which would have been wendesday my paster said something ( thought I can't remember what) and it made me think. I think God knew what each one could handle. Like in africa I don't know what your trials are or battles for that matter. It would be really neat to hear some of the things you have to battle there.
