sorry can't help you there! I got my perm a year ago next march and it's still in. (although i would never get one again because of the damaging effects.)
but they're really pretty and i'm sure there's a way to make them "last." I'll ask my mom next time i talk to her. (she's a hair stylist so she would know.)

i had a perm when i was younger, but it just got really poofy and frizzy....i probably wont get one again. it did last a long time though...my mom made me pick it instead of brush it

LOL Blessed.

Talking about perms: I personally think the prize is too high. It might look real good at first but it sure will do a lot of damage to your hair.

When you guys say perm exactly what are you referring to ?

What the guys posted as a 'manly-man' was really funny. I couldn't stop laughing! I personally don't think that a man has to wear leather and all the rest of it to be 'manly'. I think self-confidence is key.

I was referring to white ppls hair getting permanent curls through a chemical treatment.

With perms, you have to use special treatments, and lots of conditioner. I would ask someone at the salon where you got it done how you should take care of it. They should be able to tell you how to properly care for it.

my friend abbey has always, ALWAYS had her hair permed and it's thinned her hair so bad. when i told her once i was thinking about it she was very adamant that i not do it because it ruins hair quality. but that's just what abbey said, i dont speak from experience:y10:

okay, i'm not sure what happened but i posted and got logged off. but i didnt realize it, so here goes again!

i used to have a couple of perms when i was little, but i'm afraid that if i do now that the same thing that happened to your friend will happen because i have really thick hair and i REALLY like it (even though i do like to have curly hair sometimes!)

oh, that cracked me up some. if youve seen my pictures, i am anything but white. whew! no, african hair is curly in a tight kinda way. i had it permed to straighten it and it is cutting like a problem. and now the salon i went to to get it braided chopped off some of it.

Isn't there a sister in your church that can do your braids for you? When I get my hair braided, I expressly state before, that I do not want 1 millimetre of my hair touched by scissors, and after we've argued for a while they soon get the message. Luckily I've found someone that comes to my house to do my hair for me and she now knows what I do and don't want. Don't worry Namwacha, God knows that you didn't go out there purposely to get your hair cut. In the mean time how about holding your hair in such a way that it doesn't show of ur new hairstyle?

I love my cosmotologist...she knows that i dont cut my hair...doesnt even bother to ask! And...she has NEVER complained about how long my hair is!! (It's to my *ahem* bottom) She's real cool about it. And my hair still looks awesome! I've been using tons of conditioner (moisterisers, detanglers) I tried a volumizer....do NOT use that with a perm!! ACK! It tangled my hair awful!!!

I have this girl at work, and she had done dreads to her hair a while back...(yes, she is white), and she says she is trying to wait until it grows out more so that she can chop it off. I told her that I would be willing to try to undo the dreads, (after all, they are nothing but giant knots in the hair), and she now has asked me like twice when I am wanting to do it. Lord willing, I will be able to work them out. I think with some hot oil, (meaning warmer than warm, but not scalding), a comb, a towel, and some patience, that they could be worked out.

whew, that will be some work. i hold my hair in a strange way nowadays and noone has noticed yet. what more, i have the testimoniest of testimonies. my hair, which usually grows at a rate of one millimiter per year or something(its been the same length since i was like 12) has now grown at least a centimetre. isnt it great. i did hot oil treatment and it looks nice. till i get someone to do it for me, i will just stay out of salons. i have a phoia for those places now!

Haha namwacha, you make me laugh. In a good way.

Aint it great to be a girly girl?

And now I shall tell you all about my hair.

It's thin. And frizzy. Whispy. Flyaway. And really really dry. I use alot of conditioner, and leave in conditioner, and it's getting better, slowly. But it doesn't grow very fast. A girl at work tells me all the time how much I need to get chopped off for it to be healthy. And, if I didn't believe what I believe, then I might think that she was right.

But, it's my hair, and there's no changing that.

I have heard that you stimulate your scalp. Give yourself scalp massages, or get someone else to give them to you. Give yourself hot oil treatments, and try an egg wash on your hair. But definately stimulate your scalp. Try just fingercombing your hair. I did that once. I fingercombed my hair instead of brushing it for two weeks, and my hair grew almost an inch!! In two weeks!. I have curly hair, but it is soo long that the curls are pulled out. But it was curly for those two weeks. Stimulate your scalp.

stimulating your scalp is always nice...expecially if someone else does it. I had a friend do that once and i almost fell asleep. Its so relaxing...not to mention good for your hair. I haven't done it in a while tho...I may just have to get Trevor to do that for me...part of a pregnancy relaxation treatment so to speak.... :-p

Namwacha... you're beautiful. Really. And you've got such a sweet spirit, too!

I've been bad, and buying hair products! I bought a scalp brush (http://www.thenaturalsource.com/Products/tnsaccessories/scalpbrush/) and a wooden comb (http://www.thenaturalsource.com/Products/tnsaccessories/largecomb/) from tns. They are so nice on my scalp and hair, that I am wondering how I did without them!

I love all the tns products. All natural, all grown & made in Australia by an Australian owned company!
