I'm a potter and some people see it as a craft. I like to make dinnerware. I'm going to try to make lamps soon. I see pottery as an art when you make it with your hands. but China painting or molded figure painting is a craft, I do not do either.

doing pottery sounds like a lot of fun!! I also love sewing. I find that i can't find modest clothes in the area that i live in so since i know how to sew it can be a huge help!
hey people just joined and love whats happening. i love looking at good crafty work but i dont know how to do it but it would be lovely learning it. God Bless you

i guess drawing/painting/photography and such could be either a "craft" or "art" depending on how you look at it and the techniques involved

i love crafts. i am currently designing clothes for a few people in church. when more people know about it, i guess i will do it too when i have time. i am so an arts person it hurts. ok, that was just and expression, lest you all start feeling sorry for me

designing clothes, sounds hard. I convert pants to skirts. my hubby is big into paint ball and camo clothing, so I bought our baby girl a camo sweat suit and am going to convert the sweat pants into a skirt.
The other day my hubby asked me to make him some pants, I laughed, skirts are so much easier. and I have no clue where to start with pants, I would be embarassed for him to wear them in public.

i would love to learn to sew. But i dont have a sewing machine so it makes it hard to teach myself. Some day I hope to invest in one tho.
Love the post...hoping to see some really cool ideas.

did you use a pattern to sew your cargo skirt?? i know some people who can just make up the pattern. I have to say they are pretty talented
NeedGod

aaawww, i never use patterns to make skirts, i usually just make up the patterns, if i am making for someone. if making for myself, i just do touch and go, i measure and cut right on the material. i must say sometimes its a disaster!

I wish i could do that!!:012: I even have a hard time following the pattern and the directions!:012: :012:

really? if i had pattern i would be sooooo glad. i guess it solely depends on what you are good at. i am sure you are very good at something else. also necessity made me learn. patterns are real expensive here and so are clothes. so i had to learn.

patterns are very expensive here also (depending on where you shop) but it is virtually impossible to find modest clothes that aren't to big for me, or are long enough for me. I had to learn how to sew and I really enjoy it, (as long as my teacher tells me what to do until i get better at sewing)

oh my goodness, i wish we all lived in the same area so we could teach each other things. i mostly make skirts coz tops are easy to find, descent ones i mean , since people here are still pretty conserved(its fading really first though!) and tops are just harder to make anyhow, takes more time and i am too lazy!
hehehe
i want to make a dress though, soon. i think i will make a gown for formal events where we can dress pretty like!
soon!
or maybe make a two piece with a fancy top. nothing too hard though!
i posted a picture of a skirt i made. i took the picture when the skirt was still creased, not yet ironed so dont mind the creases!

it's almost impossible to find a decent shirt where i live!!!!!!!:012: I wish we all live in the same area also:) No one that i know that's in the Message lives within like 20 or 30 mile of me, and i have no bros or sis's. my where did that come from?? back to sewing. i think it would be fun to open a site on the net and get a bunch of sisters that like, and know how, to sew to run it. then at least the people that want to dress modest have another site to look at.
NeedGod
04-11-2006, 12:13 PM
i think that is a good idea. what if we just bunch up everyone in this site to go and lok for their fellow sisters who know how to sew then we can all open a site that has all that and work on it.
its a splendid idea!

04-11-2006, 12:16 PM
Yeah! i really think that would be neat!:yay: Hmm we'll have to work on that and see what comes out of it
NeedGod
04-11-2006, 12:19 PM
yeah, just remember to start a thread on it or something.
coz most sites on sewing are for a fee so its hard to learn new things and new ways of sewing without having to pay for it.
it would be nice if we came up with a free site for sewing advice and pattern types etc....all about sewing:)
