my girl cousin and aunt have been really giving me a hard time about my long hair. they said that i'm killing my hair because my hair has split ends... they said that split ends will split all the way up to your roots and make your hair fall out. I googled split ends and every1 says that they're bad for your hair! what do am i supposed to do? i don't want my hair to fall out! O__O What do all you girls do?

pretty much nothing will remove split ends once they form. However there are some lotions and creams you can use to prevent and discourage them from splitting further.
I have damaged my hair a bunch of a hair dye disaster, so my hair dresser gave me the following tips as i told her about our religion and that we dont cut our hair.
Our hair is "weak" because we dont cut it, so its important to maintain and keep it healthy.
Split ends are usually a sign of dryness. Use hot oil and deep treatments on the ends of your hair once a week.
The other thing is, when your hair is wet dont use a brush on it. Use a comb, and if possible use it while your in the shower after you condition your hair it'll prevent you losing a ton and knots and breakage.
:D!!

as far as loosing your hair... we lose tons of strands everyday! even if you cut it or not.
You wont lose all of it from split ends. We just need some more tender loving care on our hair than others.
We'll be rewarded more than they will ever know by not cutting it!!

I heard that warm olive oil is supposed to be good for split ends and like chocolate said a good heat treatment for your hair is also good. I use this Mayonaise conditioner on my hair and it works really well for me, so you try and see if you can find something similar. You'll never be rid of split ends but you can help your hair without cutting it. Try and ignore your relatives hunney.

That's baloney that they say you are killing you hair. Your hair is dead already! Cuttting split ends doesn't make it any less dead! I agree with the previous posters, there are lots of good ways to keep your hair healthy.

I use Alberto VO5 Hot Oil treatment. i buy it in packs from my local supermarket.
http://www.vo5.com/products/oil.asp < --- thats their site. The product called "smoothing" is actually specifically for split ends.
I have no idea if their product is available world wide, but i've tried a couple and for me theirs has been the best!

When I was a young Christian in the Message, when I was 21, I was having a difficult time with not being able to trim my split ends. I discussed this with a Brother in our Church. He told me "Sister Your hair is your Glory, would you even want to cut that much of your Glory off?"
I Corinthians 11:15 But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her; for her hair is given her for a covering.
That settled my heart and I never desired to cut even the tiniest amount ever again. I do try to stay away from things that damage my hair. I have always wanted to try a perm, but have never done it because I don't want to cause damage that I may have to live with for the rest of my life. I sometimes put mayonaise on my hair, it leaves it very soft. It is full of eggs and oil. This is an old time remedy. The hot oil sounds better. I may try some myself. Love Sis Lynn

oh, dont ever perm it. i permed it and now it is giving me trouble as it is cutting at a very fast rate. also (and this isnt a doctrine, its just what i feel), i feel what God gave us naturally, we should try hard not to change. He gave us curly or straight hair for a reason. He knew it would be best for us for a reason. changing it(to me!) means we are changing what He gave us originally and something is bound to go wrong.

Yes, I have heard that mayonnaise works wonders, and eggs are very good for your hair. Mostly, what an oil treatment on your hair is you take some olive oil, or whatever kind you are using, and you heat it up. Then you put it in your hair, I have hear of taking an old comb and combing it in. Then you put on a shower cap, or an old hat or something to keep it covered up, and perhaps wrap a hot towel around your head, and then let it sit there for about 30 min. Then you wash your hair as regular. Feel free to correct me if anyone else knows of a better/more correct way to do it.

It does work on African hair, or at least its worked for me. I now use a Mayonaise conditioner by African pride. It's not too expensive and it agrees with my hair. There's also products by a company called Orgnic Root Stimulator. These are a bit more expensive but they are meant to be fantastic. My hair is silky and fairly thin (even for afro hair) and its taken me a while to get to know my hair. Try everything until u find products that suit you.I'll be prayin for u to find a job. God bless

my mom bought me a gift certificate (she also is not in the message) and told me to get my split ends trimmed, but i bought some products instead.
one that i have found that works GREAT is TIGI bedhead split end mender. its in a pink bottle and has a pump. it runs about fifteen dollars for a bottle, but you dont need very much. i have had the same bottle since august and i use it every other day when i wash my hair (that's another thing....not washing your hair every day helps too). anyway, you can find the stuff at jcpennys and other salons. it makes your hair so soft and detangled.

my new friend at work got on the topic of religion with me today and we were talking about why i have long hair and dress and he said that he wished more women would do that because its "refreshing" and that i had really nice hair.
i think i was just happy because someone actually told me that i had nice LONG hair (not "why dont you cut it?"). i mean aside from message people...thats already a given that long hair is nice!

anyone have suggestions one how to tame static or frizz?
I have always had pretty frizzy/puffy hair, so I asked my hair dresser about it and she just told me to use a flat iron on it. Well I tried that and it didn't work that well. So then I tried using a new shampoo "Thermosilk"...and it has done wonders! Just wash your hair with it and then use a blowdryer on it (brush your hair first, before you blowdry) then as you blowdry it, use your fingers or a comb to flatten your hair while separating any tangles. Once it's dried, your hair should be a lot smoother and sleeker.
Try this and see if it works :)

It's amazing, growing up out of the message we were poor and I got my hair cut once every three years or something like that, Girls are allowed to have long hair so my mom never worried about getting it cut. The topic never came up, well once, I was getting my hair trimmed at my aunts and my sisters had chopped thiers off really short. My uncle said that it would be cute if we all had short hair so I let them chop mine too. I didn't like it short.
After my conversion my mom tells me she is worried my hair will never stop growing and well it has yet to even slow down, 4 years and it has grown 2 1/2 feet. But I don't have anyone harassing me about cutting, I'm a adult and everyone that knows me respects the choices that I have made even if they do not agree with it.
That is where everyone should get it to the point of respecting ones' choice. I respect you all for making these choices

good for you vpiper for makeing the stand. Some people have all the luck when it comes to hair. :) Theres a girl at our church who came into the message about 6 years ago. Well when she first started coming to church her hair was up to her ears. Within the first 3 years it was down to her waist. Now its even longer than that. And its soooooo thick. I can't imagine haveing thick hair. Mine is long but is very thin. I usually just wear mine up all the time so i dont have to worry about it looking "scraggly".

i some people's hair just grows faster then others. In fact I feel sorry for people like my mom...she has never cut her hair and her's has always been really thin. And as the years have gone on its fallen out a lot and is now only to her shoulders. SHe feels horrible that it wont grow longer and feels like people condem her for it but she knows she's never cut it so theres not much she can do.
i dont know what the secret is to having long hair or thin or thick hair either but i just know that the Lord really blesses some people with lots of hair and some with not so much. One young sister in our church is around 14 and she was raised in the message, so she's never cut her hair and hers is down to her ankles. I was shocked the first time i seen it down. I just cant imagine having that much. But im thankfull for what i have.

My hair has always been pretty thick and about halfway down my back. In middle school, about 5 years ago, I started curling my hair almost everyday because I was bored. I didn't take really good care of it because I didn't know any better. I don't know why my mom didn't say anything, I guess she didn't know either. But, almost half of my hair fell out. It was terrible! By 9th grade, it was pretty thin. But, my hair, which had been frizzy my whole life, started getting curly. I started using better shampoo and conditioner and stopped curling it. Now, my hair is past my bottom when it is wet and straight. It is getting thicker, slowly but surely, and is to my waist when curly. I prayed for years for my hair to grow and it did. I still wish it was a lot thicker and longer, but I'm so grateful for what I have. I love having curly hair most of the time. My advice is to pray first of all, as well as use good products, hot oil treatments, ect.

Afro hair is beautiful. I don't think it would suit me, tho. (Maybe because I'm not beautiful? :harhar1: )
Mine is mid-length and doesn't grow that fast. I've got no hope of ever getting it to my knees! I heard that your hair only grows to a certain length, and then stops. Which is why people who cut their hair, their hair appears to grow faster.
I know sisters who have their hair on the ground, and have to wear it up all the time. Then there are people like my mum, who haven't cut it in over 12 years, and it appears to never grow. She has very thin hair, just enough for a little pony tail. And it just appears to get thinner, falling out all the time. But she is good to her hair, only using a comb, not washing it too often, etc. But I think raising 5 boys would cause anyones hair to thin.
For hair products, I love the Natural Source. I love all their products, but the hair products (http://www.thenaturalsource.com/Products/hishinehaircare/) are awesome! They don't use any bad ingredients or chemicals. And they smell awesome. I love the leave in conditioner mist. My hair is about the colour of the girls in that pic, maybe a little darker, but frizzy, not curly. I wish mine looked like that! Maybe, if I keep using these products long enough...

THis is a great thread. There is this stuff in a flyer that I see and its suppost to make your hair thicker and longer and I want to try it but its like really expensive. For just the shampo and conditer it is close to $50.
I mean I have long hair. (long hair is un cut hair) Its growing quite a bit (Thank God) Its half way down my but. ANd thick. So I thought should I try this stuff or would it be wronge becasue I already have great hair. Which I thank God for but I'm thinking of talking to my paster about it. In one way I'm like well why not you know. If its going to help your hair grow and become thicker why not. But then I think am I not satifed with the length God gave me? Maybe this sounds dumb but I think I will talk to my paster and he will be able to help me. Lord Willing.
As for manoze I heard it worked and I think I'm going to try it. We ought to take care of what God has given to us.
And you know sometimes i wonder if people that cut there hair if it really grows faster because when you cut it it has to regrow the length that you cut. I think it can just appear to be longer. For Example my sister cut her hair the one time well trimed it but thats cuting any way. And it didn't really grow after that. Then she prayed and told God she wasn't going to cut it again and after that it started to grow.
I believe satan is try to do all he can to stop people from following God. And he has his people out there. And as far as its better to cut your hair. The Bible says its not. WE should not cut our hair. ANd God knows whats best.
Don't mean to preach.
Thanks for this thread. ITS GREAT:) :)

i guess it just depends on your motive. if you're doing it to attract peoples attention than i could see how it might be wrong but just because you want longer thicker hair, i don't see anything wrong with that, unless of course you are just totally not satisfied then there could be a problem with it. okay i'm going to be quiet before i totally confuse you! lol
Ellymae, i asked lydia about it and she said that she puts it in a bun and washes it like usual whenever she washes it. the bun would keep more moisture in also i think is what she said.

i'm going to be using this new shampoo and conditioner as soon as i get paid from cleaning houses.
I have naturally curly hair so you can't tell that i have spilt ends but my hair is thin. I want thicker hair.
Every time i shower i lose quite a bit of hair. even when i brush out my hair. I thinkthat has to do with the type of hair i have. My one aunt has the same problem. she went to the doctors to find out why her hair kept falling out. the doctor gave her some pill to help her from losing hair. The doctor told her that it has something to do with her blood stream.
I really thank God for my hair. My hair reaches my bum i can almost sit on it.
you can't tell the i have thin hair because of what i use in my hair. Since i have curly hair i need to use moose to keep my hair from frizzing.
It bugs me when my hair frizzes.
I will be uses smiply curly it is expensive but i need to find a shampoo and conditioner so that my hair will stop falling out.
I'm very happy with the hair i have.
I just need something that will prevent my hair from frizzing so much.
Any ideas i could sure use them.

I also have curly hair that looks pretty thick but isn't. Mostly it's not so thick because I used a lot of junk in it and did a lot with it and it made it fall out. So, it's growing back, but very slowly. I have been really gentle with it and I use pretty ordinary shampoo and conditioner. I use moisterizing stuff because curly hair is dry. So, I use Dove moisturizing stuff and it works well. I also use a mask or deep conditioner every week or sometimes more to give it extra moisture. I use mousse still, but after reading this awesome book from the library about curly hair, I learned some good tips about what to use and what not to use on curly hair and how to take care of it. ouidad.com is a great website and the lady that made it wrote a great book. I don't have the title, but I can look and tell it to you. I learned not to touch my hair a lot. Using serums and creams work way better and there are some good tips on how to apply them without making your hair frizz. Mousse isn't the greatest, but I still use it a bit. A lot of shampoos and conditioners for curly hair aren't actually good for curly hair because they don't have enough moisture, so even if they are expensive, they may not be good. She mentions ingredients that are good and some that are not good.
Some things I do that have really helped my hair be more curly and less frizzy are: 1) I let my hair air-dry. I don't blow dry it or towel dry it. 2) I wait until it's not dripping anymore and apply the gel/serum/cream to each curl and start with the underneath and save the outside of my hair until the end. 3) I NEVER NEVER NEVER brush my hair!!!!!! I comb it gently in the shower with a wide-toothed comb and only comb it to part it once I get out of the shower and then just a tiny bit to get the big tangles out. I finger comb my hair if necessary. Never use a brush, especially on dry hair. 4) I only wash my hair twice a week unless it gets dirty. I do get it wet almost everyday and add more conditioner to the ends.

I love my curly hair.
I think curly hair is the best.
i'm not saying that there is something wrong with straight hair.
BUT I LOVE MY HAIR BECAUSE GOD GAVE ME MY HAIR.

I love my straight blond hair. And I don't curl it vary much because I don't think that all the hair spray and stuff could be really good for your hair and also it takes a long time to curl it. And I'm not one of those girls who spends lots of time on hair. Its like the plainer the easyer. But there is defently a blaince to it.
And when I do curl it I'm told I look really differnt. I've curled it before and people from my church didn't know who I was. People I go to youth with. Now thats differnt. Just the last time I curled it which was for my sisters grad I had a brother coment on it when it was in curlers. Because I went to youth with them in yep thats me. He's like you don't curl it vary often. And it makes you look differnt when you do.
I know when I do curl it if feels like I have no hair. It so light. Thats one good thing about it but sleeping with curlers in your hair well thats a differnt story.

I know what you mean about curlers, alreadybought. It's terrible! Torture! So glad I don't have to do that anymore!
God'schild, right now I'm using 3 different ones only because they were given to me by a friend, my aunt, and a free sample. I don't use them all at once. :) I have Redken, ringlet curl perfector, medium control. It works well, but you have to use a lot. I also have Matrix curl.life contouring milk and the contouring cream. Both are ok, but i like the cream better. I would recommend something that mentions about moisturizing. I know fructis is supposed to be good, but I haven't tried it yet. So, that's all my knowledge! :)
Oh, I did find the name of that book. Here is a link to it on a book website. You can also find it at almost any bookstore online and offline, and probably at the library. http://www.powells.com/biblio?isbn=0609808370
Here is a pic of the Redken stuff: http://www.nzww.co.nz/pics/red1.jpg.
Here is a pic of the curl.life milk: http://img.epinions.com/images/opti/b5/a1/Matrix_Curl_Life_Contouring_Milk-resized200.jpg.

Wow, I would have had no idea that keeping hair looking healthy is so much work. I've seen some BEAUTIFUL hair since I've been in the message. When you're out in the world, all you really have to do is trim off the split ends, but since we know it is wrong we have to put a little more effort into it. I mean, why not? It is our GLORY! :) I'm not going to blow dry my hair anymore. During the school year, it was just the easiest quickest way to fix my hair in the morning. Since I don't like going to school with my hair wet, and my hair takes awhile to dry, I always blew dry my hair. Now, since I have nowhere to be at a particular time in the morning, I just let my hair air dry. And, I found it has made my hair a lot softer, and brings out my natural curl. I'm also not using gel or mousse in my hair anymore, unless it's for church or something. But, just to use everyday I'm not doing anymore. Makes my hair harder to brush out which damages it. And, since I haven't been using mousse or blow drying my hair, I also haven't been brushing it that much either, and it hasn't even been getting that tangled. HAHA, so looks like everything is working out really good!!

It might be the brushing when it is dry that's doing it. I never brush my hair once it's dry because it makes it frizzy and ugly.

That was the end of it she just walked away :D

Heehe, nice going blessed. :) My mom isn't a Christian, so she doesn't understand why I won't cut my hair. I've told her time and time again, and shown her scriptures, but it's just not her time yet to see. So, sometimes she tells me I need to trim my hair and what not. She used to do it a lot more often. Especially when I first became a Christian. Let me tell ya, that was very difficult for me. My mom, not intentially.. but she made me feel so ugly. Even though I knew what I was doing was right, I still did not like who I was, which made me feel that much more worse about myself. I felt so unworthy. Because I wasn't that strong in my faith, I was still young in the Lord, it took a lot out of me to say no. But, Praise the Lord.. Now (3 years later) it's nothing. The devil has nothing against me! :)

Something like that happend to me. Except it was with some of my older sisters and I didn't cut it. And I have never regerted it. To be honest my hair is alot healther and also shiner and longer.
You know people say you should trim it because its good for it. But this is what i think when you cut it it has to regrow that length again. Like come on people think!!!!!! I don't mean to be rude. But its just a lie of the devil.

I think I've said this before, but in almost all fashion mags and articles about keeping your hair healthy, they say that trimming split ends does nothing, except for make it "look nicer." It's all about the look, nothing to do with health. So, if someone tells you you should trim the split ends to make your hair healthier, tell them to look it up and see if it really does. Also, you know how people say if you trim your hair it makes it grow faster? Well, that's been disproven many times as well. So  to all of them! :D

i have the same problem...but i think it because the higher up my hair you go the thicker it is...so the less thick hair at the bottom dries the fastest...

I have heard that then ends dry faster because they're not as healthy, because they are damaged (probably from years of sun, products, heat, etc.) So if you see someone with wet hair who cuts their hair I think it dries more evenly (hope this doesn't sound too confusing). My hair is past my knees and my ends will be dry within half an hour, but if I put it up, the top could be wet for over a day.

Wow! That's alot of hair!
Reminds me, in one of the earlier posts, someone said that our hair is "weaker" because we don't trim it. I just want to say that I have never used any special treatment on my hair, or trimed it, and neither has my mother. Her hair is past her knees, and we use dish soap for shampoo, and suave 98 cent conditioner. Once, my mother was took a hair test, where they look at a peice of your hair under a microscope, and they couldn't believe how healthy it was. When she told them what she uses on it, they were floored!
Now, i'm not saying that dish soap and conditioner is the best, but, it works for me! Besides, I think that if this is what God wants, then he will either supply the money for the hot oil and stuff, or bless it and make it healthy himself, no matter what you use on it :)

My hair is not too thick...thankfully. I don't know how I could handle that. But it's not that thin; everyone thinks it's thicker than it really is, since it's a lot of hair. I think it's a good thickness, because I can still put it up and do things with it. I think you just have to learn how to deal with your hair. For me, I have to figure how to get it all up and to stay up. For others, they have to find how to make it appear thicker...So we all have our own hair trials :) Anyone have any idea to get curls all the way from scalp to ends that stay?? I still haven't found a technique for that one on my hair.....

Is your Hair straight???
Try putting moose in each strand of hair before you put the curlers in.
I have curly hair but i have 2 sisters that have straight hair and when they want to curl their hair that's what they do and then they hair spray the curls after the curls have come out so that the curls will stay in

I'm glad God'sChild. Leah has to put a lot of gel, I think, to make her hair stay curly and it's so long that not all of it will probably fit on the curler.
Leah, you know how long my hair is, not too long, and not too thick, but when I use hot-sticks, I still can only put a very small section on it in order to fit it all on. So, if you use smaller sections of hair, and tons of hot-sticks, maybe it would work. You could borrow mine, we have 2 sets of hot-sticks and one set of curly sticks, which are basically the same. I never use them and neither does my mom or Emily.

I was looking into perhaps some cosmetology classes out at the college.
One of the girls representing the program came up to me and was like, "Oh, I want to cut your hair so bad."
If I remember right, I kinda grabbed my hair and held it to me and told her, "no thank you, it has never been cut and never will."
Sheesh, leave my hair alone.

No kidding!!! I know I've said this before, but I say it again, why does it bother them? I really don't understand. And it's always on their mind. I might have said this before also, but don't remember, so I'll say it again. I went to my school district for 11 years. Almost everyday for every one of those years, someone asked me if I cut my hair or if I ever planned to. And it was always the same people. Rarely would a different person ask me. And every time I would say the same thing, "NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" I mean, come on people! Get a clue! It was as if that was their only thought. Finally, I told this one girl that if I ever did cut my hair, I would announce it on the PA system at school. She still asked, but not as frequently.
Sorry for all that, had a vent a bit. Going to college is going to be fun. Now, I'm kind of looking forward to it, cause it's new blood! Mwhahahahaha! I mean, new people to witness to. :D

That's a good one. Still, what is their problem! We don't go around telling them we'd love to wash their face or give them stuff that helps your hair.
I've had so many similar experiences too....why it bugs people is beyond me...
One guy even took a pair of scissors out and came up to me in an art class and told me he'd do it right then....I kinda screamed (as much as I hate to admit it) in a girly scream...lol...and told him to not even think about it...
i kept my hair...and i dunno what i woulda done if he had cut it...geez these people need to just mind their own business...

Then some people will tell me "but it would still be long if you just cut the split ends!"
You're missing the point. The point is not to cut it!

I had to do some math (hopefully it was right). My hair is to my calves, I'm 5'5", so I figured it's about 55 inches of hair, and your hair grows 6 inches a year approx., so 55/6=9.1666666...which is 9 years.
to your calves???!?!?!?!?!? wow...I want my hair to grow more...mine is only right past my butt....
but I suppose that is my fault....since when I was younger (about 13) I was going through some things and cut off about 9 inches... :012:

you said you started braiding your hair at night and now its almost to your knees...Nice!!! But my question is this...how long was it before and how long did it it take to get to your knees? I think i'll start doing that and see if it helps. My hair is to my waist but is very thin.
I also loose my hair like crazy. Every time i brush my hair i loose a good sized handfull. Does anyone else have this problem? Solutions anyone? The only time this doesn't happen to me is when I'm pregnant. So im guessing its a hormone thing...dont know for sure...But i'd love to keep the hair that i keep loosing.

Ummm...
I think that it was roughly around the middle of my back, maybe a little below when I started. And I don't just braid it at night. Ask Ruth or Leah, I always have my hair in a braid. In fact, the only time I have my hair down is to wash it, then as soon as it's dry, it goes back in the braid.
The key though, is tying up the ends.
Once you have your hair braided, use a band that will not tear your hair to tie off the end. Then, if you have any hair at the end of that tie, wrap it as tight as you can around the tie itself. Then roll the bottom, end-to-end, once or twice and tie around the little knot it makes.
It's a little uncomfortable at first, but you get used to it really quickly. My hair grew a whole 6 inches just in the first few months because the ends weren't being split and broken off as much. The only thing though, is my hair is wavy and extremely thick, so I don't know if this method will work if your hair is thin....but hope this helps.

My hair is thin, but somewhat long as well. I also lose a ton of hair. I would also like to know what to do about it. Though, I do think eating healthy and drinking a lot is good. I don't really do either. I skip meals when I'm home alone because there is not much to eat that is easy to make. Also, I don't drink nearly enough. I'm trying to start. And, I'm taking a multi-vitamin, but I'm sure you are too, with your pregnancy and all. Anyways, yeah, same here. Anyone have tips for loss of hair? I have been praying though. I think it's a good thing to ask, for God to let me have more hair.

I have heard that the amount of hair that you lose is the amount of new hair growth that you are getting in each day.
But...I am not too sure on that.
Also, tips on getting ppl not to say anything about cutting your hair, I have noticed that ppl only say that when my hair is down. Wear your hair up, and see if there is less comments. Also, I have heard that wearing your hair up is good for it.
Keeping your hair in braids...it is good for it, but I just can't wear my hair braided at night, as I just can't get comfortable. There is something about wearing my hair down at night that is comforting.
Also, check the type of brush that you are using...The bristles might be the wrong type.

i wear my hair up all the time....I started wearing it up after i had my first baby because it kept getting in the way. I got so used to having it up that when i wear it down it feels funny to me. I has helped my hair a lot by having it up. I used to get horrible knots in my hair when i wore it down all the time.
And as for wearing my hair down to sleep, I like to do that as well...it just seems more comfy at night if my hair is down...but every now and then i braid it before bed.
I dont use a brush on my hair at all. I used a wide toothed comb. I have found that is a lot eaiser on my hair than a brush. I've also been taking multi vits and prenatal vits but they still dont seem to keep my hair from falling out. I've been wanting to look around to see if there is a type of hair vitamin that might work for that kind of thing. Anyone every found any of those?
Babyruth
08-28-2006, 03:48 AM
Yeah, I mostly wear my hair up, it's so much easier. I never brush my hair. I've already talked about this somewhere else. And Sis. Trevor, there is some vitamin for hair. I found it, and got it, then ran out and have just been taking regular multi-vitamins. But, the hair vitamin has lots of a certain thing I can't remember what it's called, but I will find out for you. For some reason I think it's silicon, but I can't remember for sure.

This reminded me of when I was younger. My hair probably was low back and I had it down in the car. Well, I leaned out the door as I was taking my seatbelt off and a piece retracked with the seatbelt! So I called for my mom and we couldn't get the piece out. My grandma was there (who is not a believer), so she didn't get what the fuss was all about, because I was crying that I didn't want to cut my hair, but my mom said it would be fine--God would understand. So we had to cut a piece off. It was probably like 1/4" thick, and we had to cut it to almost my shoulders, b/c the more we tried to get it out, the more it went it. It was annoying for like a year, b/c it would poke out, but eventually grew out. So, all that to say, BE WARNED seatbelts can eat hair!! (so can vaccumes--I had a very close call one time).

On the hair topic...I thought I'd just share that if you ever get your hair done in braids (like in Mexico or the Carribean) you may lose hair from it. I did just the front when I was in Mexico and I lost hair and now I can tell that the front part of my hair is thinner. I think it's because they are done so tight (which is great at the time :) ) that it pulls hair out. Although I loved having them im, I'll think twice before I do it again. If I do, I'll only leave them in for probably a day or 2.

Now, just to let you know, anyone who has read any sort of beauty and fashion books would be able to tell you in a hearbeat that the contradict all of the time. Brush your hair, don't brush your hair, scalp stimulation is good, scalp stimulations causes more oil to be produced in the hair...blah blah blah, and so on and so forth....They constantly contradict themselves. My advice would be not to take what a "beauty expert" says, as they just know what makes it look better, but listen to actual studies by scientists and such, (even though they end up contradicting themselves as well) because they are more likely to be correct. Not saying that the methods that a beauty book wouldn't work, just that I would take it all with a grain of salt, and ask yourself what seems healthiest, and what you would like to risk.
That is my $.02.

Hello all! I am brand new to the forum. :buhbye:
I was browsing through your posts on the split end thing and had to weigh in!
To be honest, my hair is something that Satan has been attacking me with lately. I just get tired of having so few options on what to do with it. I'm not great at styling hair, and mine is very un-stylable (if that's a word!). It's paper thin. It seems everywhere I look are young people my age with the cutest hair cuts. But as someone in this thread said previously, I try to keep in mind my rewards for having long hair as a testimony.
About the split ends, I too have heard of the olive-oil thing. And so far the stupidest thing people have told me is that my hair will "grow faster" if I cut it!! Go figure. They must mean that it will get longer faster, which it probably would. The things that come out of people's mouths.
Anyway, like I said, I'm new, so hello to all and I look forward to your fellowship. I joined YQF because unfortunately I never get any Christian fellowship, even at church, so I'm very weak spiritually (that's another story). I don't really have a good support group to keep me straight, so I solicit your prayers.
Later!

Actually olive oil is not good for your hair... short term it seems to help, but long term it dries it out and will start to make the ends go all brittle.
Coconut or jojoba oil are awesome natural moisterizers. The best thing I've found is called CHI oil. A small bottle lasts forever and works heavenly :)
*and Ruth, women on average lose between 40 to 130 strands of hair daily... the more you have the more you lose. So it's probably alot more normal than you think :)

My hair doesnt noticably fall out but my hair has become a lot thinner since I've been more stressed and under pressure I wonder...
Anyway Mums hair has got a LOT thinner its the thinnest in the family and its just falling out and she's on iron supplaments to help with her heart pills so it cant be iron defitancy!
Grandma's hair has really started coming out especally after she's washed it but that could be beacuse she's just been diagnosed with a heart problem.
Becky's hair is like its always been sorta thin not long not short but she's really non stressed no health problems so the problem really must be Stress and illness.
And to refer to a older post of Alana's STOOD on your HAIR my hair hardly makes down to my backside and yet its the longest and thickest in my family (hope it still is even with all the stress!) I was brought up in the message and my hair was never cut and it still isnt too long unlike my friends Amanda Jasmin and Jessie Bro Derrik Donaldsons Grandaughters their hair like makes its way halfway down their legs. But then the Donaldson hair has always been like that Mum used to always be jelouse when she was a kid growing up with them coz mums hair never grew that much its only slightly longer than her shoulders and its never been cut since she was 7!!!

Some of ya'll are very blessed not to have to wash your hair every day. I just have to. My hair is very thin and fine, and it'll get greasy after just 1 day!! Even though it's thin, it's still such an effort sometimes to wash it and dry it. If I don't dry it thoroughly before bed and sleep on it as is, it'll be a weird shape the next day.

I don't have too many split end right now, and I think that's because most of them have fallen off... lol
I do have a lot of dead ends that I can just break off. They're very dry and damaged. Know of any good products for dead ends?

My hair is extremely think and almost to my knees, and I don't have very many split ends...maybe because I always have the ends tied in a knot? But I have to wash it every day (at least the top) because it gets greasy if I don't.

I It started when I got nits for the first time (being homeschooled sure keeps nits away) I eventually caught them of my 7 yr old cousin. No they just thrived ARRRHHHH I no my hairs nice :D But still do THEY have to like it???
I heard that Using lavender shampoo will keep the Nits away. They hate the smell. Now they make Lavender everything from lotion to fabric softener.

Where do you find hot oil treatments in stores? Where the shampoos and conditioners are? Because I never see them... lol

yep, like at walmart, it was one small little area (there was only two kinds to pick from) and it was V05.....about four bucks. it was the top shelf, like in the middle of the aisle of shampoo and conditioner. it comes with two tubes, and i needed both!!!

just a warning... I use to do hot oil treatments all the time, it ended up making my hair go all brittle and break off.
Bear in mind I have thin hair that I just 'slightly' abused with dyes and all that. ;)

10-31-2006, 04:07 PM
i could see why that would happen.....
my hair is super thick though......and i'm going to do them maybe once a month (they recommend every week!...but thats too much trouble).

Hmm... except, I don't like V05. lol
When my mom used to buy V05 shampoo and conditioner it would dry my hair out.
Lately I've been using Sunsilk shampoo and conditioner, and then the 24/7 cream (kind of like leave-in conditioner) afterwards. I use the kind that's suppose to help make dry/split ends a lot smoother. Oh, and not to mention... it smells SO GOOD! :)

lol, I don't use any meant-for-human products on my hair except CHI oil. Everything else is from work.
I also get deep conditioning treatments every 6 weeks and a diamond coating. It's actually just hair dye without any colour, so it doesn't have any of the chemicals or harmful stuff in it. Makes your hair really shiny and seals the cuticles.
I tend to go on and on and on about hair.... lol

I have mixed feelings about hot oil treatments. I've always heard they are good, however, recently I've seen a lot of articles about how hot oil treatments aren't that good for your hair. I don't remember the reasons, but they did make sense. However, I have used hot oil treatments and they seemed good, but my hair was always weighted down afterwards and it made my hair frizzier, even though they weren't supposed to. So, I think it depends on your hair type. Since mine is curly and dry, I think it dries it out more and weights it down.

I'm too scared to do anything to my hair. I'm terrified that something will go terribly wrong.

I just found a place in our mall that sells all kinds of glittery, shiny pretty hairthings for really cheap!
It's one of those really overdone victorian type gift stores... never bothered to go in there before, but I did tonight... and there they were, just waiting for me to take them to their new home :D

call me boring, all I do is braid my hair in a ponytail or straight down my back I use to do Pipi Longstocking braids or put my hair in a pony tail then separate it out so I could have up to 6 separate braids coming out of one pony tail holder, my hubby really liked that. but I don't have time for that anymore nor patience.

well I might take you up on that some time. We should all post pictures of our hair down, just our backs so where and see if everyone can guess who is who.
marichino_freedom
11-28-2006, 12:27 PM
that might be interesting
vpiper
11-28-2006, 04:18 PM
I think the best way to set up a guess who is who poll is to have everyone send a similar picture of their backs with their hair brushed straight down to one person. Then they will have to set up an album or something and number the pictures so people can guess.

Who wants to be the person we send them to???
vpiper
11-28-2006, 04:51 PM
I'll volunteer. I'll start a new thread to ask for pics. Then we should put the poll on the main forum and let the guys guess too

Yeah, I'm pretty sure mine is easy. I'm not brushing mine straight, if I do it. Cause I don't brush it. :)
