Is that a british term??

<chuckle>

Hi and welcome..

Have you heard of the interrogation tradition here yet?

Prepare yourself to answer intruiging questions of little import, but of high entertainment value for how quirky they are.

Lizzi i just noticed this: "Tommorow is a new day with no mistakes in it"- Anne of Green Gables by L M Montgomery. - i love that movie (very clean and full of wonderful lessons). in fact all of us in the family love the story. we saw it countless times and never got tired of doing so.

As i remember it, Ms. Stacy said "Tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet." :D but then again, i like anne's version (without the yet)..she's not pre-empting that mistakes are already expected thought they are inevitable.

sorry guys i just have to comment on this..i dont know if you're familiar with this movie.

Lol, see now if I was going to be picky I would say that Anne Shirley said it to Rev Alans wife in the novel (or was Marilla, or did she in fact say it to Miss Stacy in the book)-see now my point is about as firm as a fault line. Nevermind.I love Anne of Green Gables both the book and the movie. It's just class.

I'm not a guy ...but...

I love the A E version of Pride and Prejudice..and I know Snoop has seen part of it..because he's waiting on me to see the second part. (and yes..he liked it) -hides-

I get called Anne of Green Gables all the time...kinda scary in a way..cuz i'm not the whimsical romantical thoughts type. But I can see me in the rest of her.

...who said he has to be tall dark and handsome?

good clean movies...and yes I can see how they would be torcher to any male. I would never dream of forcing it on a guy more than once.

Pride and Prejudice A & E? what does that mean? i've seen the newest version of Price and Prejudice, it's very nice and decent. i've also seen sense and sensibility and Anne of Greengables of course but not the last one. Is it really bad?

A&E is who made it. It's an older version from the nineties. Its pretty good. (my personal favorite is the mother)

elizabeth
01-28-2006, 12:31 PM
so u don't like the new version? i haven't seen that version..some said the british version was the best

JoeC
01-28-2006, 12:36 PM
sense and sensibility was written by Jane Austen? and are her books as decent as the films?

Her books are rather wordy and voluminous, with so many characters you quickly forget who is speaking about who. Good books to read before bed. If you want to enjoy it, watch a movie.

As far as decency? I haven't heard of anything wrong with them. The movies are probably worse than the books, simply because of the women's dress of the period (although full dresses, the tops are rather low).

elizabeth
01-28-2006, 12:40 PM
probably because she was an 18th century author ..but sometimes it's difficult to understand the words being said and not all that's written on the book is being showed on the film..too many scenes are skipped

JoeC
01-28-2006, 12:41 PM
Well, scenes skipped or not, you still get the message of the work - while enjoying yourself.

elizabeth
01-28-2006, 12:47 PM
i agree..but you can enjoy more when u read the book plus u can understand the story a whole lot better :D

JoeC

I'd rather spend my reading time with Louis L'Amour.

elizabeth
01-28-2006, 12:54 PM
Louis L'Amour...an author of what sort of books?

JoeC
01-28-2006, 01:08 PM
He is the writer of western novels.

elizabeth
01-28-2006, 01:14 PM

JoeC

lol i know but is he really? :D

JoeC
01-28-2006, 01:30 PM
I don't know any other western author who has 4.6 million websites (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=active&rls=GGLG,GGLG:2005-52,GGLG:en&q=louis+l%27amour&spell=1) mentioning his name.

elizabeth
01-28-2006, 01:35 PM
well i've browsed several websites..never heard of him :misli:

JoeC
01-28-2006, 01:36 PM
Did you follow my link?

Many, many of his books have been made into movies. Also, in the US, you'll be hard pressed to find a library who has more western books of any other author than L'Amour. US libraries are probably a pretty good judge too, since the traditional western genre takes place in the west.

elizabeth
01-28-2006, 01:47 PM
can u name one movie? and besides i'm not american so that explains why i havnt heard of him :D

JoeC
01-28-2006, 01:51 PM
Why can't you just accept my assertion that he is the most prolific, most well known, most widely appreciated, and, in most circles of the genre, the most respected author of western novels?Anyhow, we're on a tangent. Feel free to break in whenever you want, lizzi.

elizabeth
01-28-2006, 02:06 PM
well probably because i don't know him

JoeC

Ummm, have you ever been out west. Do you read western novels?

Jeni
01-28-2006, 06:39 PM
yah your mom got you hooked on those eh joe?

the last anne of green gables...it wasn't as good as the first two. (of course) but...it ended the story...and anne and gil FINALLY got married. its worth watching.

The British version (BBC produced) of Pride and Prejudice is the best version I've seen so far. I haven't seen the newest version yet but I can't wait to. I think you'll either love Jane Austen's works or hate them. I didn't really appreciate them till my A-levels (I was about 17), but I remeber despising them when I was younger.
I like Emily Bronte's 'Wuthering Heights' and I think my favourite books at the mo are Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman and Shadow of the Wind by a Spanish author.
What happened to my interogation? ;)

I would venture to say that the best version of Pride and Prejudice I have seen is the A & E film starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle. I thought the actor who played Mr. Darcy in the BBC version was too starchy and didn't bring the proper depth the the character. Firth manages to speak volumes with his eyes alone, creating a masterpiece performance.

I would not classify the newest version of P & P as 'decent' due to paintings typical of that era that are seen in several scenes. (Guys, please do not watch this; if you do, please don't tell anyone it was recommended on YQF. *wink*) The actors did do a fine job, but Colin Firth still gets my vote for best 'Mr. Darcy' ever. (Even if he did hate playing the part.)

Jane Austen's novels are not only clean, but they frown on low morals and point out human frailities. I would recommend them to anyone, although I realize they are not to everyone's tastes.

The Colin Firth, Jennifer Ehle version is actually the BBC version. I remember when it was done and shown over how ever many weeks and plus I have the DVD. I'm not sure what other BBC one you could have seen. But I totally agree that Firth and Ehle played the parts terrifically. Only thing is their dresses were soo skimpy. how in the world did they survive in the winter with only their tiny jackets?
