I have heard of people in the Message who think it's wrong for girls to ride horses. I mean, obviously I ride, I'm just curious as to what you all think.

nope i dont.
again it comes down to what you wear, you can get well supported bras to lessen so much obvious movement there - i assume thats what you meant.
As long as your motive isnt to ride to get guys attention... which considering its you i think not haha.
so no, and i love horses, and i would ride if i could.

me too....they're so graceful
like sarah said..there's things to help that "movement".
-chuckle-
Definitely should wear a full enough skirt so ur still modest. (of course)
But no, definitely don't see anything wrong with that. Us poor females...we really have to watch ourselves don't we?
I remember one year at Louisiana camp... one of the group games involved sack racing. (where each person steps into a burlap sack and hops toward the finish line)
and u thought riding a horse was bad?
HAHAHAAA...ha.
I didn't participate in that game...(tho i honestly wouldn't have had trouble..if u know what I mean -grin-)
Buuuuut....we all need to be careful. And of course...to not be a stumbling block to others.
Oh yes... I remember that! I was there that year at Louisiana... I didn't participate either... then again, i really didn't think much about THAT either. But, to answer... no, i don't think it's wrong for a girl to ride horses. I would do it if i knew how...
-and even if i didn't-

I don't think it's wrong either, as long as you wear the correct clothes. I have more trouble than the average girl, but I have done it. Other sports, like running sports are less worrisome, but still annoying. I love basketball though, and played for years and didn't have trouble. Lots of girls I know ride, so go ahead from me too.

Bro. Branham's daughter rode horses, and he let her wear split skirts just for that reason. I believe that split skirts or really wide skirts are modest enough for riding. As for too much movement, there are things to help that.
Also, it depends on the style of riding. With English, you are a bit more modest, (I feel, I LOVE English riding, and someday I want to learn sidesaddle, the ULTIMATE feminine way of riding), as you have posting, but with western you have to sit the trot which is the most *horrid face* uncomfortable thing, especially with a horse made to canter, not trot, and provides a wonderful setting for just what you are talking about. But other than that....I LOVE riding.
zippnkandibar
01-16-2006, 06:54 PM
actually, you don't have to sit the trot in western. i ride western and my instructor has me post. yeah, i have ridden some horses where they just...do NOT trot, they're made to canter, and i couldn't post on them because the rythym was really screwed up (if i was a better rider i probably could have posted)...but luckily i was with all other girls so it wasn't that bad, even though i still felt rather uncomfortable.
thanks for all your comments (or whatever you wanna call it) i was just shocked when i heard that some people think it's wrong for girls in the Message to ride

i also have a question, now that this has been brought up....
this summer, i am going to climb Long's Peak in Colorado with sarah and seth (samurai's siblings and very good friends to me). it is a 14-mile total trip, and there are lots of obstacles and nearly vertical parts we will be hiking/climbing up. do you think its wrong to wear something like army bdu's to climb (for safety reasons). i would like opinions please

I don't know. I probably wouldn't. You could wear a split skirt, but there are sports skirts that make it easier to climb in.

pants are pants. long skirts are long skirts. It really is quite clear.
if you cant do an activity in a long skirt in a decent and modest way its most probably not something you need to be doing anyways.

amen and agan i say amen. that is true. there is no compromise when it comes to the word. it is either the Word or nothing. oh, rejoice in His name with me. i am here today to inject the joy of the Lord as i am sooo happy. :yay: praise His name. He didnt compromise for me when he died on calvary.

i'm not sure what they are either.
From what i can gather it would be pants that look like your wearing a skirt?
You really do have to have your own personal walk with God, if you're questioning it, and it sounds like you are - don't do it!
I have my own personal opinion on this, but everyone does, so i will raise this fact. The bible says do not PUT ON a garment pertaining to a man - that includes whether it looks like it is or not, well to me it does.

well, its either that or i need to make and extremely full skirt that is a little shorter and wear pants under it...which just actually stemmed from chocolate's post on pants!

this coulant things sound so lukewarm to me, like something the devil conjured to get us to sin without knowing we are sinning. and anything that sounds lukewarm to me, i spew out of my mouth before He spews me out of His.
remember sisters, we have to suffer some uncomfortabilities for the sake of the word. so if it means riding with full skirts or with what you people called split skirts, then we should do it. if people laugh, then we should rejoice for we know we are doing it for the sake of the gospel. remember, if you suffer no reproach, then youshould question yourself. we will have to suffer for the sake Matt 5:10-12

I went wall climbing with my class and wore a stretchy sport skirt with sport capri's underneath. Nothing showed, but just in case, so my legs were covered, I wore the capris. The class was all girls too, so it was better.

and some times we cant just do some things. we deny ourselves some pleasures for the sake of the Gospel. but we will will get paid in full for our sacrifice. like i refused to swim in a costume in high school because i wasnt sure and i knew some men, e.g cooks and teachers would see me. and i was teased and people would talk behind my back and call me a bigot and words like that. but i want to be a fanatic for Christ.

that's true....we have to look beyond all the criticisms that we experience here....Faith is a long range vision...so we know that all the reproaches here on earth could not even equal to what God has in store for us in eternity  !!!!!

hey i'm new! :) i have something to say about riding horses. i believe as long as you are either wearing a full skirt or culottes (riding skirt) that riding horses is not wrong for girls (ladies). in fact i barrelrace and had never even thought of riding being wrong.

I'm trying to figure out how to skydive in a skirt. (Generally, one uses a jumpsuit.) Anyone here have any suggestions?

I've wondered the same thing. My friend and I agreed that on our 40th birthdays we will go bungee jumping and sky diving. I think a sister at our church went parasailing before, and may have put her skirt on over the jumpsuit, although I may be wrong. Let me know if you find out, then I will know what to do in about 30-some years.

i know some girls from a message church canada did it with coulettes on - they did it in australia actually.
and they did this in http://www.taupobungy.co.nz/ with coulettes on too.
I dont see how it would be possible with a skirt without showing something... someone let me know though! ;)

A bunch of girls from my church went skydiving. We did it in skirts. A friend designed a special skirt for it. It worked really well.

Sweet! Check out the guy bungee jumping with a kayak!
Wait 'til my dad sees this. On second thought... maybe I shouldn't show him that... might give him ideas. hmmm
