Ok, this is just sad, you guys are obsessed with how many posts you've got. QUALITY, we need quality, STRIVE FOR QUALITY NOT QUANTITY. We need like a critics board for the posts here, lol. Like, someone to say, "Hey, you misspelled 'Hypochondriac'!" or something. Look at what we're loosing in trying to get so many posts here!!!! What I'm trying to say is that I'm mad because there is no way I'm gonna catch u guys with 1 measly post...... :horseman:

Brother brother brother lol while it is true that some of us are posting like crazy it doesnt mean that others dont have to catch up they can be happy with what ever they can contribute, also it was partly because we have posted so much that others have taken interest, also there are plenty of other areas on this board for the "quality" stuff like the study hall or the support page or the boy girl area or or or there is alot to offer to all, if you are just seeing the random craziness of the board then you arent looking hard enough at what all there really is LOL actually Joe made a chat area but this main forum seems to be the biggest chat area on the board lol

oh and also sure spelling is important and can help us figure out what the other person is talking about a little easier in some cases, but grammer/spelling check is school terms lol and I am out of school using this board for fun, so I dont go spell checking everything cause that just kills my fun lol, and as you read the board you will see that many ppl have taken it upon themselves to correct both for me lol, So i am not a strong writer/speller but I am also not writing a school essay :P
So welcome to the board and thanks for espressing your thoughts on things :D It is good to have and am glad to see it, but dont forget to enjoy yourself here too :aaaah:

Oh and this is just how I feel lol please dont feel that i speak for everyone on here I know in Some ways that Joe feels like there should be a little more control over how the threads and things are flowing, soooo maybe we should take it down a notch :D
I know alot of us are excited about having new friends to chat and play with on here though, maybe this area should be called the fun Zone instead of main I dont know but when it comes to the other areas of the board there really isnt as much craziness as this spot, their really are some other great areas, with very meaningful topics and discussions going on in them, I am sure if you check those out you will see that we are more than just fun and games on here, but in a way we are also expressing our selves the same way we can at a camp in away, this small little world of fellow believers and Children of God can gather and forget about the worries of the outside worlds influences and problems :) and also many of the newer postested threads start off with ppl who have problems and share with us and we do go over them and talk with them, and alot of times it really only needs to be covered in those first few posts on that one thread.
So I guess I will try to cut back again Like I did ( though everyone wondered where I went to )

I have agree with what you're saying... but Samuarai does have a point. The main area is mostly a chat board.
The whole post race was mostly an incentive to get volume into the forums - thus creating outside interest. It's beginning to work and slowly but surely we will be shifting to a more quality post environment. Though that's not to say that we are gonna outlaw joshing around and general goofyness - it's an integral part of having fun with each other! :D
I welcome you to stick around and help contribute to the forums - there's some great things ahead.

you know, it is possible to make chatty posts, but still use grammer and spelling ;) And I don't know if making the next post title at 5,000 will encourage or discourage people from posting a ton of random posts....

I would rather suggest that the main area would be spiltted into parts or moved around.
For exemple, the thread on "virginity" or on "dream guy" should be moved into the Guy/Girl section.
Thread like "Old sayings", "Random thoughs" should be in a specific section.
I might suggest some possibles sections :
- Fun sections (mainly post about posting and other "meaningless" subjects)
- Web sites (including this one)
- Everyday life (school, work,...)
- Things related to christianity (wyr, ...)
- General (instead of main).
On the other hand, we do not want too many sections as it seems that some small section are underused...
Also, maybe a section or a thread just about the organization of the threads.

You know I think that grammer/spelling gets better on the more serious posts. The main forum is for just messing around, and so we mess around. Places like the study hall are for things we really care about, and so we pay more attention to how we say things.

my DOS class teacher said one thing that has always stuck with me, he said the more we use computers the more we make grammer/spelling mistakes, and i have always found this to be the case, what do you suppose it is?
Blood Washed Bride
01-15-2006, 05:52 PM
Because we get lazy and expect the computer to fix it for us. And perhaps typing isn't as personal as writing something down by hand, so we feel less responsible for our mistakes. The same degree of association between us and our work is no longer there.

now your getting it lol yes that is part of the reason, I think the other part is that the text really isnt there in the same way as printed text. On the computer its so easy to go back and correct it we dont really think about it most of the time but if it is printed in front of us we pay more attention to it because it is fixed and not so easily changed :)

With all due respect namwacha, you really subverted the system there. :peep:
The point of the reputation system is to encourage the kind of posts that everyone else enjoys and discourage those that the community doesn't.
If you get a poor reputation, the thing to do is go to user cp (http://www.yqnews.org/forums/usercp.php?) and read the comments people made on your posts. Follow the constructive criticism (provided the critics were helpful enough to detail why they do or do not like a post). Don't do the stuff that people don't like and do do the stuff that people do like - that's the sure fire way to boost your reputation.

I disagree. While I think the new system is fun, I don't think it should take away from the fun we've had so far. If someone doesn't agree with a post because they just didn't like it, that brings down the reputation and one must constantly watch what they say just to please someone else. As long as what you say is appropriate and doesn't offend someone, it is fine. Would you tell someone you were talking to that you didn't like what they just said and they should stop? I doubt it. Again, don't get me wrong, I think the new system is fun and adds some fun, but who wants a red reputation?
NeedGod
02-08-2006, 04:10 AM
who wants one indeed.
how come matt will become famous enough but has only few reputation points? and others have more. is it determined by when one joined?
Actually, Matt has 60 reputation points - more than anyone else. vYou are probably looking at his reputation power, which merely indicated how big an effect he has when he votes for or against someone else's post.
Now BabyRuth, I think you are misunderstanding. I don't say that you should give someone a negative vote because you disagree with what they said. That's not at all what I'm purporting (for example, while having the magic debate in Study Hall, I never disapproved of FreeAtLast's posts.)
The cases under which one should disapprove of a post is like where someone is doing something that the mods can't quite delete, but it's annoying to everyone else. Obviously non-relevent posts, uncalled for silliness, long praragraphs with run on sentences, no formatting and little punctuation... things that the person just as well might not do. But no, one certainly shouldn't knock someone down simply because of their opinion.
You get what I'm saying now?

i agree with Joe on this one
The reputation system is a tool for determining the value of a users contribution to the forums. Many times, a user won't realize that they are annoying others... and others don't want to tell them because they don't want to be the ones to hurt their feelings.
However, an anonymous reputation system allows for all this. Once the perpetrator finds out that they are unwittingly frustrating others and how (through comments), they are generally more than happy to change their ways. It works the other way to. If someone does a good job on a post, they receive positive reinforcement for those types of posts (again, through point and comments).
Now, I recognize that this can potentially be a derisive element to the forums, and indeed it is on other forums. The temptation to take uncalled for pot-shots at others is present at times. However, I am working on the assumption that we are all mature enough to give both positive and negative feedback when and only when it is called for.
Babyruth
02-13-2006, 04:08 AM
I get what you're saying and what you were saying. My thoughts are still the same, but I know you wouldn't encourage anyone to give negative comments and I'm sure we are all mature enough not to unless there was a reason. I was commenting more on pure translation from what you wrote, because that's how it sounds to me. However, I think it's neat and has not been a problem at all. Great idea!
