Even though I clutch my blanket and growl when the alarm rings each morning, thank you, Lord, that I can hear. There are many who are deaf.

Even though I keep my eyes tightly closed against the morning light as long as possible, thank you Lord, that I can see. There are many who are blind.

Even though I huddle in my bed and put off the effort of rising, thank you, Lord that I have the strength to rise. There are many who are bedridden.

Even though the first hour of my day is hectic, when socks are lost, toast is burned, and tempers are short, thank you, Lord, for my family. There are many who are lonely.

Even though our breakfast table never looks like the pictures in magazines and the menu is at times unbalanced, thank you, Lord for the food we have. There are many who have no job.

Even though I grumble and bemoan my fate from day to day and wish my circumstances were not so modest, thank you, Lord, for the gift of life

Thank you Lord

Just because your country doesnt celebrate the American holiday side of it, doesnt mean you can give thanksgiving to God. Thats what it was made for in the first place, and it is truely sad to see how it has become so comercial, but that doesnt mean that we have to follow that same path, http://www.christiananswers.net/q-wall/wal-g007.html
So no more of this, its not a holiday in our country stuff lol Thanksgiving should be a everday holiday :D

I got up a 6:30, went to work. Got off work at 12. Came home to post on the forums. Did some career research. Went over to another family's house at 3:00 for Thanksgiving. After that I went to sleep in their 4 yr old son's bed (man, I didn't have a bed that comfortable when I was 4!).

When I woke up, I found out Brother Ray (the father) had gone to sleep too. He had to go to work that night because he had committed himself to snow shoveling. Just as we were about to leave, he got up. Really didn't want to go shoveling and asked if I wanted to do it. I aaccepted, but after he called the guys who he was supposed to be shoveling with, he found out there was only a couple hours of work. So I just ended up going home, taking a sauna, and going to bed.

That sounds like a whole lot of whining to me, what do you think girls??

Sound perfectly logical. I personally got up at 7, (after getting to bed about 12) started the turkey and got it into the oven (with mom's help) by 7:30. I ate a little breakfast, (pineapple and papaya), and then went back to bed. I got back up about 11, and got dressed, and helped with little things.

About 11:30, 12 I carved the turkey, and then we ate. I cleaned up the turkey around 2, and inbetween eating and cleaning up the turkey, I was knitting baby slippers for someone.

Then I got ready at 3, and I went to work, where we were serving others Thanksgiving dinner to others who didn't want to cook. Then after 6, I went home and ate a piece of chocolate chip pecan pie. That was my dinner. :D I didn't stuff myself, because I don't feel good after totally stuffing myself, and besides, I stuffed the turkey that morning. (THat was HOT!!!) I don't remember what I did for the rest of the night. I think I finished the baby slippers, and started working on a scarf for myself, and cleaned my room a little. And THAT was my Thanksgiving. :D

Don't confuse people! The Canadian Thanksgiving is the 2nd Monday in October. The AMERICAN (and might I add, SUPERIOR) Thanksgiving is the 4th Thursday in November.

Lol, it took me a moment to notice the dates on this thread.
This year mom bought a ham, and her, my brother and I will be celebrating tomorrow by ourselves. On Saturday we will go to our aunt's house for turkey and more food!

What am I thankful for? I am thankful for family and friends.

This is america. We carve up millions of pumpkins every year to make jack-o-lanterns.

We hang candy canes from christmas trees. Trees that we go into dense forests to cut down.

We stuff chickens inside of ducks, and stuff that into turkeys to call it a Turducken (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turducken).

We hide chocolate in our yards at Easter.

We give out free candy to complete strangers at Halloween.

Our Independance Day is synonomous with BarBQs and Fireworks.
Memorial Day is for family grills.

Christmas has meals just as lavish as Thanksgiving.

This is America. Home of the free(grazers) and the brave (and morbidly obese).

Grocery Stores in America throw away more fresh produce than most countries ever import. Our fresh meat gets thrown out a week before it actually goes bad.

You think a holiday dedicated to food is really that far out of the question for us?

JoeC
11-23-2006, 12:29 PM
Thanks again Nate for your typically cynical view. However, food is not whatThanksgiving is dedicated to - albeit it, food is definately a highlight of Thanksgiving. :D Thanksgiving, like Christmas, only loses it's purpose when the participants neglect a relationship with the True God. Thanksgiving is a time in which family comes together for the purpose of strengthening their connectivity to one another and giving grateful reflection to their Creator.

In short, Thankgiving, like Christmas, is all about relationships. If you define it to be anything different, you are allowing your sight to be blinded by the world's perception of the holiday.

Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving! I love Thanksgiving, yes, the food is good, but it's nice to get together with my family and be thankful for what I have. Most of my family lives close, but we are all so busy, it's hard to get together. Thanksgiving is one time we all get together and have fun and make memories. My aunt and I kiss a "wine glass" used for sparkling cider, with sparkly lip gloss, just to freak out my other aunt. It's fun!

Australians don't celebrate thanksgiving. I guess they just aren't very thankful.

Our family did the whole turkey thing for the first time last night. It was awesome! I think we're going to do it every year now.

You can read about it on my xanga (http://www.xanga.com/alysa21).

Guess what I've got for lunch today. And dinner tonight. And lunch tomorrow...

Yes, Yes, that is the problem with the turkey bird. Leftovers. Now if you like them or don't mind them - like me - great.
If your like my Dad - the sooner it is gone the better. I did think of leaving that comment on your xanaga but this will do.

Australians don't celebrate thanksgiving. I guess they just aren't very thankful.we don't either; it doesn't mean we aren't thankful ;)
we just don't have a special day for it

but yesterday was a great day, a "20+ group" together, worshipping Lord and waiting on Lord for His guidance; we had a great prayer time, Lord showing things to people... really great :)

I'm glad you enjoyed your thanksgiving, Joris.

As for the turkey problem, I think we should extend the Canadian Goose hunting season and switch the Thanksgiving day bird to goose.

Thanksgiving lately has been about hunting.

All the deer were gone tho.

Where'd they all go?

No leftovers for Leah :( We went to friends' house, so we left it all for them. Probably better for my waistline :D Thanksgiving day was soooo relaxing. I got up, exercised, practiced the piano, sewed, read, took a nap, messed around on the computer, then went to their house @ 4:30. It was the latest Thanksgiving meal I've ever had-we didn't eat until 6:30! I thought I was going to die of starvation...but obviously I didn't.

A few of us were thankfully grumbling at my Mother-in-laws only 1 can of sweet potatoes served. She said they didn't get eaten last year.

We were like "WHAT??"

It was a good thanksgiving, albiet tiring with my hunting regimine.
