Premarital Sex

Where in the Bible does it speak against it? I ask because someone else asked on another forum, and I failed to find a straight answer. A "thou shalt not 'do it' if thou art not wed" if you will.
I know in Deut. 22 it talks about what should happen if a man accuses his new wife of not being a virgin, but that's only in the event that he believes she's been unfaithful to her vows.
And in another part of Deut. a rapist is given the chance to marry his victim. But it also says if a woman is raped in the city, and doesn't cry for help, then she's just as guilty as he is, and they should both be put to death. But even then...
And in Song of Soloman, you don't really know if Soloman and his beloved were married yet or not.
I'm a little confused. Help me out here.

Acts 15:20 says to abstain from fornication which is defined as sex between two people not married

Ephesians 5:3 says the same thing.

And there are many many other scriptures I'm sure, just search for fornication in the Bible. It is interesting though that Moses never spoke of it, at least in those terms mentioned above.

the part about a woman being raped is interesting. In this day, crying out means death. But i still think sometimes loss of virtue forcefully is just as bad as being killed inside.
Now about premarital sex, i believe it is a straight no no!

EXODUS 22:16
16 ¶ And if a man entice a maid that is not betrothed, and lie with her, he shall surely endow her to be his wife.


That should pretty much sum it up right there... if he "lies with her" he's supposed to marry her.

So at worst case the argument would be, pre-marital sex is ok as long as you get married. Not that I really believe that, but it makes the point for sex going hand in hand with marriage.

DEUTERONOMY 22:28
28 If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found;
DEUTERONOMY 22:29
29 Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.


Again, they sleep together, they get married.

Also you'll find earlier in Deut. 22 that they refer to "tokens of virginity" obviously this custom was in place to prove that the new bride was indeed a virgin prior to being married. This custom would be ludicrous in a society that did not believe that it was wrong to sleep around before marriage.

I think that makes the case pretty much, along with the use of any scripture talking about fornication.

Hmm, I think, yes, that's a better (more biblical) way of looking at this - though am not 100% sure -- I've come across sites that explicitly said it's not true to say 'sex = marriage' (well don't exactly know one to link to though). Wondering whether we're missing something -- or that they were missing something :confused:

i think pre-marital sex means sex before marriage. pre means before. so after marriage you are allowed to have sex but only with your spouse otherwise you will be commiting adultery
