I already posted this, but I'll do it again just in case so that it will be separate.

My name is Ruth. I live in a very small little cow-town in Washington. I attend Bro. Byskal's church in Canada. I am now 18!!!! I got to vote in just general elections, but it was very cool. I was born in Canada. My dad is Canadian and my mom is American. I am both, which is very cool. We moved to Washington to be able to attend Bro. Byskal's church about 14 years ago.

I was the only believer attending my high school until last year when my sister came, as well as another girl from our church who is our close friend. It was hard not having anyone that understood, but now I'm so glad to have someone, even if one is my sister. I am the oldest of 3 kids. I have a younger sis, 2 years younger and 1 younger bro, 4 years younger.

I accidently discovered the old website last year at school while on MessageLinks.org. It was really encouraging and uplifting, especially the newsletters. Then the new website and this website. It's comforting to see and "hear" other believers, especially in the midst of school. It's a nice little break from the world.

I don't especially like to write, although you wouldn't be able to tell from the length of this post, but I can write a lot, which is obvious. My Civics teacher makes fun of me for it, but I can't help it.

I plan on pursuing a career in Occupational Therapy. I really enjoy it and hope that it's what I'm supposed to be doing. It's hard, so far things have worked out and have pointed to it, but I want to be sure it's God's will. I get a lot of worried responses from people when I tell them I actually want to have a career and not get married as soon as I graduate. I really don't plan on getting married, if I have to, I will, but I would really like to be an Occupational Therapist and practice in less fortunate countries, like South and Latin America and Asian countries, not necessarily China though, sorry.

I will stop, I could go on and on. If anyone has any questions, please ask. Also, don't worry, I'm not a feminist like Bro. Branham talked about, I'm not totally focused on having a career, I just don't feel led to be married, but if it's God's will, I will listen. However, I've begun telling people that Paul said it was better to be like him and be single than married, so I've taken Paul as my example.

I have to say that I have mixed feelings about women persuing careers. Persuing education is a non-issue to me - it can really help out if you plan on schooling your children. But pursuing a career?

In your case though, I think that it's coming from the purity of your heart. Now, if you were to say... want to be a big corporate business woman - I'd take issues with that. But you want to help people - not just have an independenbt life (I'm guessing). That's a godly desire. Not that you need my approval, but it's there if you ever think that every guy in the Message takes ought with your wanting to pursue a career. :)

Interesting topic! A controversial one too - those always make the best topics! :D

I agree that pursuing a career purely to have a career is not right. As of now, I don't really want to get married, like I said, and I definately don't want to live with my parents my entire life and depend on them. I really enjoy Occupational Therapy. My grandma and mom are both nurses. Neither one worked while their children were at home. I think it's good to have something to fall back, especially for single women. I don't know if I will stay single my entire life, but I do know I want to do something with my life. Not to make money and have a career, but to do something that is useful and that is honoring God and that utilizes the gifts that God gave me. I would definately not practice if I had children, I would be the best mother and wife I could be. However, not everyone gets married. There are lots of single sisters at church. They have to work and some are nurses. If you don't know what Occupational therapy is, it's similar to Physical therapy, but not quite as physical. I really enjoy it and would love to work in less fortunate countries providing therapy, but in a missionary-type way. There is a sister from the Phillipines, I believe, that is a nurse and provides services to believers and others for free. That is what I would like to do, if it's God's will, but with Occupational therapy. Thanks for supporting me, JoeC. My family supports me, as long as it's God's will, and that's the only way I would ever do it. Thanks for your comments!

Sis Ruth, you are taking on a big responsiblity. Nursing school is not for the faint-hearted, nor the weak christian. Trust me. My oldest sister is an RN. It was very hard work. Talk to some of the sisters, and find out how and what they did. Not to discourage you, b/c we need more people in the medical field, but It is hard work. God Bless you in whatever he is leading you to do.

Its not everyone's calling to get married, even though some ppl think so im single and i have had sisters told me u should pray for a husband, my personal opinion is when God is ready he will send one if that is his plans for me in the mean time im going to enjoy my single life which is great and do the best that i can to please the Lord.

I think its great that u are going to do Occupational Therapy may God richly bless u in it, i know from ur honesty that souls will be brought to Christ.

Thank you all. I'm really excited about learning to be an Occupational therapist. The main reason I picked a "career" is because I want to help others. I don't want my life to be totally focused on me, I want to be able to serve God with what He gave me.

Hey Ruth, I see you uploaded some photos to the gallery!

Can you tell me what the Cloverdale camp is like? I've never been there.

Cloverdale Camp is awesome!!!!!!!!!! It is family camp too, but definately focused on the young people. It runs from Monday morning until the following Monday morning. For the first 3 days, it is junior camp, for 1st graders through 7th graders. I the mornings are devotions. They do activites during the day like Press-the-Mark and sports and other fun activities. In the evenings, they have a skit or bible-study. Senior camp is the other 5 days. It is for 8th graders through 23 or 24, or whatever age you can get the brothers to let you in until. We have devotions in the morning, do sports or other activites throughout the day. Some include Press-the-Mark and volleyball. Definately volleyball, what would a believer's camp be without volleyball, lol. I don't really like volleyball, but it's fun to watch. There is also a gym so you can play basketball and other sports. Then, after dinner, we have services for everyone. The congregation comes and others that come to visit. This year, the services were especially good and so many guys and girls that haven't been serious about church came back and totally changed. Normally on Sunday night, the senior campers see a skit and then after a while, have a bon fire. It's a great time to worship God and fellowship. Some bring their guitars and trumpets and everyone sings. It is a wonderful time to get alone with God. I very much enjoy it!
