I keep getting a message that I have given too much Reputation in the past 24 hours. Why? I haven't given very much at all, and it won't let me! Can someone fix it or explain it to me? Thank you!

It seems to be fine now, but who knows. I would still appreciate it if someone could look into it for me.

I have another question that is going to sound dumb and lame, but I have rep power of 52. I have 11 green boxes and am at 1500 reputation points. But, collegegirl, for example, also has 11 green boxes, but only has a rep power of 50 yet is higher on the Member list of reputation. azurity also has 11 green boxes, but only a rep power of 43 and is also higher.

I told you it sounded stupid, but what I'm getting at is that I don't understand the reputation thing anymore. How are they higher? Can someone please explain it to me? I read Bro. T's tutorial thing, and I still don't get it.

In the case of collegegirl, it's a seniority/longevity issue. You've been a member sine August 2005, while collegegirl has been a member since October 2005. Factoring in the reputation for every thirty days being a member, this accounts the difference of two in your rep powers.

Rep power and Rep points are not directly relational.

Rep POWER is gained by longevity (1 point for every 30 days), post count, (1 point for every 500 posts), and rep points (1 point for every 50 rep points).

Rep POINTS are gained SOLELY on people voting for you and giving you greens or reds.

SO it's concievable that someone can have a much higher rep points than you, and not have as much rep power. This would primarily be due to longevity.

The number of green boxes is only a graphical representation of the approximate range of rep points you are in. Like 11 boxes is 1500 - 1799 rep points or something like that.

Let's break down your power of 52
You've been a member since Aug 2005 so that's 15 or 16 rep POWER in longevity.

You have 3,153 posts, so that's 6 rep POWER
3153/500 = 6

You said you had around 1500ish points, so that's 30 rep POWER
1500/50 = 30

so 16 + 6 + 30 = 52

so you Have a power of 52 and a rep point of 1500.

Azurity

Been a member about 11 months

1500ish rep points
1500/50 = 30

post count = 725
725/500 = 1

11 + 30 + 1 = 42

which gives her 42 rep power... Maybe she's got 1550ish points which would account for the extra point there.

so 1550ish points/42 power

Collegegirl

Been a member about 13ish months

3606 posts
3606/500 = 7

1500ish points
1500/50 = 30

30 + 7 + 13 = 50 rep power

So shes 1500ish points/50 power

Does that help?

*Note, I realized during this exercise that rep power is 1 point per 50 rep points, instead of 1 point per 100.

This is an old thread, but I realized now that I'm reading it for the first time!
Ok, that explains a lot...
