Hey girls, I was just wondering what your opinions are of perfume. Of course we like to smell good, but I think some girls go completely overboard with it, even some of my own friends. They know all the different brands, which ones they love, and which ones don't smell as good. I've never had a problem with using too much, because most perfumes give me a headache (no kidding!). I don't think perfume is bad in itself, but I do think it can be used too much and with the wrong motive. What do you all think?

Many things can be used for the wrong intentions. When you said perfume gives you a headache.. I agree... too much perfume gives me headaches as well. Im not up on all the perfumes like all the brands, etc... Usually with me I find one I like and stick with it :)

I love perfume. Hate it when it's too strong though, gives me headaches too. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one... I get strange looks when I say that!
lol, kind of ironic. People put more on to attract other people, instead they repel them :)

i like perfumes too....i only have 4 small bottles (i've collected them over the last couple years!).....but i only spritz once or twice, so it isnt too heavy

i prefer body spray (like when you get a set of shower gel, lotion and body spray)....its a bit lighter and i can use a little more of that! plus, it usually matches my lotion/gel.

i like to match smells, just not clothes.....

I can honestly say I've never bought any perfume before! I don't know what it is...

I think it's because I don't like to spend money, and I'd rather spend it on something that I need rather than just something that will make me smell good. Haha..

i've only ever bought one bottle of perfume for myself.......and some body spray. the rest are just leftover from different gifts and whatnot (i dont use them very fast....i usually just have time to soap up and go in the mornings)

i'm very picky about perfumes...i guess that's why i only have 2 bottles. ANd I've had them for several years. I used to wear it all the time when i was single, but when i had my first kid i had to quit wearing it because it made him break out. Now i'm just out of the habbit.

But i usually only wear it if me and Trevor are going out and i'm all dressed up. Makes me feel young again.

I hate it when people wear it very strongly tho. I let someone hold the baby a few days ago and she smelled like the person who was holding her. Yuck!!!

A friend of mine had a saying that some perfumes were so strong you could spray it and jump into it and get plenty on you. LOL...I think that is so true.

I don't like perfume very much. I almost always smell the alcohol in them, rather than the scent; especially in body sprays. I do like body spray at times. I have a few perfumes that I like and use occasionally. However, like you, Elly, perfume makes me get a headache and it hurts my nose.

I LOVE perfume. I get a headache too if the perfume is very strong. I have an aunt who wears really strong perfume and getting hugged by her used to be torture lol :). I'm a bit of a collector of perfumes but most were given to me as birthday presents, so I haven't had to spend a fortune on them. I like perfumes that are subtle. My favourite perfume at the moment is one by Narcissco Rogriguez and it smells like freshly washed and ironed clothes with a bit of something extra mmmm. I also love the smell of White Musk.
I never knew, or rather I wasn't aware that some girls (or even boys) used perfume in a negative way. I've always seen it as something just to make you smell just a little bit nicer.

My favorites are Be Delicious by DKNY (smells like apples), Coco by Chanel and Green Tea by H2O. I rotate between the 3.

Now that we all agree too much perfume is bad, let's remember it!! I'm sensitive to scents, so perfume often makes my nose run or eyes water when I wear it, so I do so sparingly, but I do like body spays. They seem to have a fresher, not so harsh smell. I've never bought my own. I got a variety back from Victoria's Secret for my 16th b-day and still have alot of all them...I like Halo. I also got a bottle for my grad that I'm willing to give away to a taker....I kind of get sick of the same smells after a while.

I'll take it...not kidding.
I have only three "real" perfumes (Orange, peach and Gap Dream), but I have all of the Bath & Body Works Body Splashes. I like variety.
And I need a Hawaiian White Ginger perfume...

I have Cheap and Chic (I know a wierd name) which smells gorgeous. It can be overpowering if you spray too much, but it lingers forever which is good coz you don't have to keep re-applying it. My friend got me Ralph Lauren Cool for my 21st and I wasn't sure of it at first but I love it now. It's got a real summery scent. I laso bought this perfume in Germany called Evidence which was gorgeous but it wasn't designer or anything so I don't know if I'll ever find it again.

I thought of this thread last night in church....

Someone near me had WAY too much perfume on. When you walked in the pew you could smell them. I kind of got sick to my stomach from it. Normally I get used to a scent, but at the end of the service I still could smell it and even sort of taste it. It's a good thing I don't know exactly who it was.

lol, my sisters idea of wearing perfume is spraying it in the air in front of her and literally running through it. Then she's paranoid that it's too strong :)

LOL....my best friend as a kid did that. But the perfume she wore was so strong that you had to do it that way if you didn't want to knock other people out with the smell. :) I hate a strong smelling perfume. Its very irrotating when I hug a sister from church and then i smell like her....ewww

I hate when people do that in the washroom at church because then if you're anywhere near them, it gets all over you too. Or you walk through it and get it all over your shoes from it being all over the floor...Arrgghh!

lol, she doesn't do it at church, don't worry :)
I drove a sister home from church a few weeks ago and she decided she needed to smell nice for the drive. She proceeded to put on a squirt of 3 different perfumes
I know there is a mix and match line of perfume from bodyshop... but judging by the smell of this, it wasnt it :D

Hahah... yeah! Especially when it's the kind that comes in a tube with a little brush. You almost need a mirror to put it on...

When I was younger, a sister was sitting out the front of the church, and pulled out some purfume to put on. I can remember thinking, "Oh my goodness... how wordly!"

I don't know why I thought it was wordly. I guess I was just legalistic.

I do wear some purfume, occassionally. I like Givenchy, if we're going to talk brands! But for everyday, deoderant and body spray are usually enough.

One perfume I can not stand is Gucci Rush. If I even walk into a room where someone is wearing this, I feel like I can't breath. And it's so common! So when I say, "You're wearing Gucci Rush, aren't you?" they usually reply, "Wow... your good to know that!"

I can't exactly say, "Yeah, because can't stand it, that's why!" ... can I?

One smell that I've found is quite common with men is CK1 or Hugo Boss. Why can't they have some variety :012: lol.

Is it just me or does the same perfume smell different on different people? I remember smelling Jennifer Lopez's Glow and thinking 'good grief that is awful'. But this girl was wearing it and she smelled really nice.

Purfume definately smells different on different people. The chemical and acid reaction on everyone's skin is different.

That is why you shouldn't smell purfume when it is in the bottle, or as soon as you put it on. You need to wait about 5 minutes, for it to show how it will smell on you.

Another thing abut purfume is that after about 30 mins, you can't smell it on yourself. You become "immune" to it. And if you wear it all the time, you probably won't be able to smell it even when you first put it on. I guess that's probably why people wear so much... to make sure it can be smelt!

I also want you to know that who ever started this thread, it's all you fault. I read this thread then asked my hubby if you thought that I should wear perfume. so he said he wouldn't mind it for special occasions and went on to suggest that I should buy some and give it to him as a christmas present that I would use for him. I don't know what to say maybe these people should realize that the scent is not for them to smell, it's for everyone else. there should be a device that tell people how much they smell of a certain scent and you can check to see if you need to add.

putting perfume or chap stick on during church is wrong no matter how much, you pastor wants to see your eyes and focus is on the message not yourself.

Lol--I have one or two perfumes that I stick to all the time right now. One's just a mix of essential oils, and the other's Crabtree and Evelyn's Lilly of the Valley. It's marvelous (well, at least I think so...)--and it can lift my mood when I need it.
