View Full Version : Why I like the fort.

So after reading the thread about collecting, that has now morphed to dolls and purses, I have realized why I like the fort so much.
The girls of course laugh at us becuase "there's never anything going on in here".
Precisely!!!
They seem to think that's a BAD thing, I tend to think it's a good thing. A place where I can come, and hang out with the guys, and there doesn't have to be incessant chatter.
We can punch each other in the arm, say... "hey", sit down, pop open a root beer or a Mt Dew, and just sit. We can come in here and sit with placidity, reflecting on life, and hearing Nature's peaceful sound.
We can hear the sound of the watch up on the ramparts of the fort, the relaxing sound of the sentries boots steadily drumming across the wooden walk.
We can sit back and watch the sun go down, and think of how one day our sun will too set, and contemplate what we have done before that setting, and what, God willing, we will do for Him yet.
Yes, the fort, even if it cannot compare in numbers of posts to "girl talk", it means so much more than that to me. It is the escape of escapes, the retreat of retreats, the manly place, indominable to anything we wish it to be.
Long live the fort.
Somebody pass me a Mt Dew.

I think... being behind computer really isn't giving me much of that, bro trevor; there's no "we", I don't like beer ;)
relaxing sound? I don't know the humming of a computer is not that relaxing (oh yeah, that part can be solved by playing a CD)
ah... I could see sunset here... but computer may be causing me to miss it or so ;)
joris, root beer is a type of soda. We be not passing around alchoholic beverages. ;)
James 4:7
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
This has got to be one of my favorite verses in the Bible. When I get into those long, drawn out mental battles where the pressure is to the point of intolerablility (love 1 Cr. 10:13 too!), I have this promise.
I've also been thinking a bit about James 4:15 as well. It's something I'm trying to practice more.

I've really been thinking along the lines of the next three verses myself.
JAMES 4:8
8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
JAMES 4:9
9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
JAMES 4:10
10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
Humility. Bro Branham said the secret to power is through Humility.

Bro. John just mentioned those verses in his sermon like a week or two ago...

*sits root beer can down*
Well if we are having a Bible study, here is what I have been studying... well more of realizing from a couple scriptures.
Psalm 138:8
The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me: they mercy, O Lord, endureth forever: forsake not the works of thine own hands.
I just love that. The Lord brought me out of the world, santified me, and filled me with the Holy Ghost. It was HIS WORK, not mine. O Lord, forsake not your own work that you have done on me! Oh, it's wonderful to be one of God's children.
And great to be with just the guys...
*sips root beer*... ahhh.... refreshing

1st Samuel 17:48 And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.
49 And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.
I just love this scripture, God brought this to my attentoin when i was very very very young in the Lord, it was a huge encouragement, and showed me we are an invincible army because we are in the Will and Word of the Lord, and that no matter the size of our problems God will not only see us through them but he will allows us to overcome them by his strength.
"A king that sitteth in the throne of judgment scattereth away all evil with his eyes."
Gotta love being in the presence of the King!
Hebrews 11:5
By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God has translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
That scripture warms my heart :)

Brothers, i have been contemplating joining the forums for a while, but this sure sounds soo real and sweet, i would love to join folks as we talk about God in that relaxed manner of a calm atmosphere as Trevor explains it, this is far better than exchanging superiority talk with the Girls room. This thread is very real, let it have 100s of pages, but dont rush it and dont stray it.

Thanks for sharing that... I must have passed that scripture over in the past.
Hebrews 11:4
By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh
Hebrews 11 is just an amazing chapter in the bible, it describes exactly what we as Bride should be like. Abel had a revelation from God and he obtained witness that he was righteous, the Bride will say the same. Enoch was translated because he had this testimony that he pleased God, the Bride will say the same.
God warned Noah of the coming flood and Noah took him at his word and built an ark. God promised Abraham and Sarah they would have a child, they took him at his word and went forth believing it. The Bride needs to do that more and more, people could be healed sitting in their seats at church if they just took Gods promises of healing and did not doubt it.
Could another verse be added which said "By faith <insert name here> went forth in a Rapture believing God's Word for the seventh church age"?

Love it!!!
All of the Bible is sooo good! This morning I was asking the Lord what I should read. And I felt directed to Psalm 1. It seemed a bit unusual to me because 1.) it's the first chapter of a book and you kind of think that something should be in the middle and random, 2.) I have it memorized already and 3.) it's only 6 verses long (wouldn't the Lord want me to read something longer?).
Well I started reading and the first 3 verses just really spoke to me. I spent as much time just going over those three verses and thinking on them then I do a whole long chapter.
"Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly,"
Have I been walking in the counsel of the ungodly by reading all these kinds of so called self help type books and books on business and investing? Maybe I'm over doing it and not balancing my life out with enough of the Bible and Brother Branham's sermons. It really had me thinking about that.

reading in Mathew, yesterday was at Mathew 5; it's some real puzzling one, though... there you see Gods standards I guess;
start at "blessed are...", seems like it sounds more like Jesus mentions cursed people there, but... :(
I'm in His list there too, though, no, the reason that makes me say I'm in that list doesn't really seem like much of a blessing... maybe should get revelation how those people are blessed (Jesus words on it seem nuts)
preaching was on friendship, by the way (John 15:9-17 as a text it got based on)
2 Corinthians 4:18
While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal

I'm sorry guys if I'll break the momentum for the quotes. But just today I've been contemplating on the war movie that I have been watching entitled "Band of Brothers" an epic (ten series) true to life events on WWII, cousin has a copy of it and I really love to see things happened during the war. It was about a team (Easy Co) of Paratroopers battled during that time. They were considered the best because of their successes in their missions. Really touching. It made me reflect on the fight we have, if we are placed on the front line the only choice that we have is to go forward and to fight with everything we got, and to fall back and face defeat should never be our vocabulary.

I was so blessed on the message Bro Paul La Fontaine delivered earlier. He used Psalms 149 as his text and focused on verse six:
"Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand..."
Said that we can never win our own battles without God fighting for us. And that we can never use our swords without giving praise to what God has done for us. And by doing so, we please God, and when His name is lifted up, He will surely come to the scene and give us victory.
Please do tell me how my pastor did. I'd love to hear about the Wednesday meeting.

Glad to know that Joe. He did great, everybody did and we're so grateful. I'll try to ask him more about you tommorow at the music clinic. We're blessed especially by their energy and how God moved through them. I really loved the songs Joe.
If you get a chance to speak to any of them, give them my greetings. Thanks for the update.

They were too busy yesterday on the music clinic and I was unable to speak to any of them. I enjoyed how Sheryl gave us some tips, and Sharon giving us advises and told us stories on trials they had gone through how they were criticized and all of that. Bro Isaac and Henry blessed us. They were so sweet. God bless them. On Sunday I will be able to speak with Bro Paul for sure (I hope) because he'll be preaching in our church. Yesterday, Bro Paul went to a church together with Bro Roel while the others were doing the clinic, said he'll support the ministry here <smiles>. Will do Joe.
