I need some help regarding translations. Would somebody please explain to me what are "bunco games"? Thanks!

I looked on the web dictionary today, and this is what I found. If someone else knows it, and mine is incorrect, please correct it.

bunco game

n : a swindle in which you cheat at gambling or persuade a person to buy worthless property [syn: bunco, bunko, bunko game, con, confidence trick, confidence game, con game, gyp, hustle, sting, flimflam]

LOL well from what she found I would agree but I would still like to know where they came up with this. Did you hear it from some one or read it some place?

Brother Branham uses this expression 30 times in Message, and I'm doing translation of Questions and Answers 1964. This is the quote:

QUESTIONS.AND.ANSWERS.1_ JEFF.IN COD SUNDAY_ 64-0823M
947-128 These kids today needs a buddy. If they had a mother and father would stay home and take care of them, instead of out here in a barroom running around all night and things like that, wouldn't have--wouldn't have a juvenile delinquency. See?
They got away from the Bible; they all went to church and made bunco games and things like that and... See? You're trying to polish up like Satan's ground out Hollywood. You could never bring Hollywood into the church; you've got to--I mean bring the church into Hollywood, you've got to bring Hollywood to your grounds. See? Not go on their grounds, let them come over here. We got something they know nothing about.

Wow! I have never heard him say that before. I guess I need to start listening to the tapes more often, paying more attention.

See it helps to translate when you know where the words came from so you can better help those that need to know. I have alot of experince with this when i speak to other people from places like china and asia. Thanks for sharing this with us. always good to learn something new huh Collegegirl LOL

I believe Brother Branham means "bingo games." He often mixed up his words and this surmise would fall in line with the many times he chided the Catholics for playing bingo games at church. What does everyone else think? Sound plausible?

Brother Branham uses this expression 30 times in Message, and I'm doing translation of Questions and Answers 1964. This is the quote:

QUESTIONS.AND.ANSWERS.1_ JEFF.IN COD SUNDAY_ 64-0823M

It is highly possible. I dont know cause I wasnt there but it is possible see again this is why it is important to see how the words were used in their original context :D.

Dear Sister,

The "Kentucky" English of Bro Branham, can be difficult to translate at times!
My family and I have had some lively and fun debates while translating the messages for other family members.
Below is a link to an online translator guide published by Bro Ed Byskal.
I think you'll find it incredibly helpful.
http://www.bibleway.org/idioms/home.asp

God bless you.
PS. According to this quide, BUNCO simply means - a game of cards.

Hmm yes I seem to remember seeing that site before. Interesting.

I will have to check it out. It might come in handy sometime soon.

Christian-Samurai

the only one I know is when I was down that way visiting is that they told me the plural for yall was all yall, lol thats the only southern I know

collegegirl
11-05-2005, 01:40 AM
It's true. Y'all, is all Y'all. When I run across some others, I will tell you. Southern isn't all that hard, it is just kinda laid back and homey.

Christian-Samurai
11-05-2005, 01:42 AM
Ummm riiiight, I used to work with kids who thought they were homies lol talk about funny sounding

collegegirl
11-05-2005, 01:45 AM
Okay, let me tell you right now. You have Hillbilly, (Sorry, Georgie, Alabama, Etc.), and then you have drawl, which is western (i.e. texas, arkansas, arizona), and then you have northahn, (i.e., the New England states, Maine, New jersey, even New York), and then you have southern, which is Kentucky, Tennessee, and Florida. I know, kinda messed up, but Kentuck isn't as bad a Georgia or Alabama.

Christian-Samurai
11-05-2005, 01:49 AM
You forgot midwestern heh :D

collegegirl
11-05-2005, 01:54 AM
Sorry, mere technicalities. I was just trying to hit the highlights to explain it to you.

Christian-Samurai
11-05-2005, 01:57 AM
Well being a midwesterner there isnt much to hear lol, though ppl say we have an accent, it must be called the plainest accent because you can understand our accent very clearly

collegegirl
11-05-2005, 02:00 AM
And midwestern is considered....?

Christian-Samurai
11-05-2005, 02:11 AM
A good accent LOL

collegegirl
11-05-2005, 02:12 AM
I live in one of the southern states, and I don't have an accent. :D

Christian-Samurai
11-05-2005, 02:15 AM
Sure sure thats what all the people with southern accents say :D

collegegirl
11-05-2005, 02:16 AM
No. My grandma has a soft southern accent, but if I have one, it is so slight that it is not noticed.

Christian-Samurai
11-05-2005, 02:25 AM
Maybe you dont hear it but other might, I never knew or thought I had one till someone asked me about it once

LOL really collegirl, i must apologise for post#30 i forgot :moron: to log in before i post

Christian-Samurai
11-07-2005, 10:11 AM
Forgot?? I think you already made it "old and gray, with only two teeth left". First thing to go is the memory dont ya know :D

collegegirl
11-07-2005, 12:20 PM
LOL Actually, I think it is the hearing. :D But I think that the memory is up close behind it. Hey, I'm only a senior in highschool, and sometimes I will set down a pen, and two seconds later wonder where I put it.

Babyruth
11-07-2005, 07:19 PM
I do that all the time. I put my pen or pencil down and completely forget where I put it. I always accuse my family of taking it, and then I find it a few seconds later, it's my new way of find my pencil, blaming my family, seems to work so far. :harhar1:

blessed
11-07-2005, 08:17 PM
lol@Samauri -
Seriously i do have a memory problem i tend to forget very easily And i do still have all my teeth so i don;t think its old and gray syndrome :harhar1:

collegegirl
11-07-2005, 10:49 PM
Ah, but you don't have to accept the memory problem. It is just something that the devil is trying to give you. You don't have to accept it. Just like Bro. Branham telling the people to accept their healing, you can accept yours.

I don't have a bad memory, I just temporarily misplaced that brain cell. LOL :D

Christian-Samurai
11-07-2005, 11:44 PM
Well like i tell everyone, I do know everything, just not all at the same time :D

collegegirl
11-08-2005, 09:52 AM

Christian-Samurai
11-08-2005, 04:48 PM

collegegirl
11-08-2005, 06:26 PM
You could have made a fortune. Then you would have had no problem getting over to China, and then you could send for all of us to come over to the wedding. BUUUUt....LOL :D

blessed
11-08-2005, 09:13 PM
Aww to late samauri well next time u come up with something new make sure and copyright it

collegegirl
11-08-2005, 09:15 PM
Even if you have just an idea, you can patent it. Then no one can take it, and you will have plenty of time to develop it.

blessed
11-08-2005, 09:18 PM
Uh oh i don' tthink u should have told him that now he will patent ever idea he has oh boy :D

collegegirl
11-08-2005, 09:20 PM
:stupid: Sorry. Well, the main idea is to get him focused so much on one idea that he will have no time for others. :aaaah:

Christian-Samurai
11-09-2005, 08:40 PM
