Hey girls....My sister in law is due to have a baby in a little over a week. She is having trouble coming up with a name so I thought I'd help her out. Her and my brother have a 2 1/2 year old girl already, named Isabele Jewel. They are having a girl this time as well. So far the only name they can agree on is "Ava". But they thought of "Ella" too. The family has voted between the 2 and Ava has won the vote. But my sister in law says they still dont know for sure and can't come up with a middle either.

So anyway....you all get the general idea of what's going on. So I'd like you all's input on cute but different baby names. They dont want a common name.

So let me know what your ideas and i'll pass them on to my brother and sister in law.

Thanks a million. Girls RULE!!!:)

That's funny! People at our church have daughters Ava and Isabelle. I personally like Rae as a middle name; I like Kara Rae, so Ava Rae might work....just my humble suggestion.

Both of the previous posts are good. I'm not really good at names. I like the name Ava though, it's pretty. Ava Marie. :D Since my middle name is Marie. :D

one of my favorites is Shekinah (sp??) Glory

my younger sister loves that name.. at frist i thought it was weird because of the middle name she wants for he daughter if she ever gets married.. Shekinah Praise is what she wants to name her daughter..

I have friends that named their little girl Shekinah Jewel.

Sounds good so far...
Hope they can actually decide when it comes time cause there's a lot of awesome names out there.
And I totally see why they would want to name her something different...I have an unusual name, and if I ever have kids, they'll all have unusual names too.

I don't really have first names and middle names that I've picked out to go together, but some names here lately that I like are...

Eden (which could even be for a boy, & first or midde name)...
Kelaiah...
Calah...

There's a resident at work who's name is Edna (I really like that name).

Anywho... Just a few :)

I wa reading a book of Greek names one time, and there was some cool ones. Don't know if I could actually name my kids that or not, but I liked a few of them. Mostly just because they were different.

update on my sister in law....

I hear that makes everything a whole lot more painful. I'll be praying that she doesn't have to be induced. Has she decided on any names?

AlanaH

Yeah, I've heard some pretty bad stories about that...

SisTrev
09-16-2006, 07:59 PM
she hasn't decided on a name yet, but she did say that they have come up with several more, altho she wont tell me what they are. That means they are probably weird.

But as for the induction...she was induced with her first one and all went well. I was induced with my second one and out of the 3 that was my best delivery.

(A little late to the thread...)

I like Alana Lori, or Lori Ann.

For boys, Jared, Azariah, Misheal, Hannaniah, Shemiah, and a few of the others that I have underlined in my Bible as I have come across them. <grin>

Oh, and I like the Hebrew name for Esther, Hadessah.

By the way collegegirl...i LOVE the name Hadessah. It just wasn't something that Trevor wanted for a baby.

i have always told myself....if i ever have children, then the first boy i have is going to be "gabriel alexander"....gabriel from the bible, and alexander for alexander the great....because he will be great

yeah....i think about this way too much.

i have a list of girls and boys names; some are different

i like the name Asia Renee for a girl, and Odessa Marie.

Other boys names i like are Cameron Tyco (Tyco after the physicist Tyco Brahe), and James Isaac (James...as in the brother of John, and Isaac both for Abraham's son and for Isaac Newton)

Abraham is a cool name too, but I would call him Abie! :)

Your name? Your name isn't bad, it's just the simple mistake of pronunciation, and the variations of it. Now those old Bible names are another story.

AlanaH

mary

My name... :D...

Is pretty cuntray.

So many people mispronounce my name! And misspell it... I don't think it's that hard.

People have pronounced my name E-lie, and E-lee.

NOT El-ee.

But, that's just a weird way of spelling it...lol. I like Elly, or even Ellie.

My parents were thinking of naming me Terra, which could be spelled a million different ways as well. I really like that name. I might name one of my daughters that name.

AlanaH
09-28-2006, 04:17 AM
I simply love the name Tirah, which is pronounced "tear-ah". I think it means "arrow" or something like that. So if you paired it with something...you would get a pretty neat combo.

SisTrev
09-28-2006, 11:12 AM
funny how names get misspronounced when you think they are so simple...

Like mine for example...Anna May...you'd think people would get that right. But it never fails...I get AnnaMarie all the time...and there's a girl that goes to our church named Anna Joy...people call us by each other's names too. But to make it worse...before I was married , by maden name was TOY. Honest....that's what it was...and you wont believe the number of people who ask me how to spell it. LOL!!! Well now my last name is EMOND...well good luck on prononuning that one. No one gets it right. It sounds like E-Mund...but everyone wants to put and extra d in there. It always comes out Edmund. Sometimes i wonder if i should have it changed. :)

So I told myself that I would never give my kids names that were hard to pronounce. Well, i did. Poor Azariah...more often than not people pronounce it U-zare-re-uh and they think he's a girl. So now i just tell people his name and say "we call him Riah" . Oh well...his middle name is Joseph. I guess he can change it when he gets older if he dont like it.

AlanaH
09-28-2006, 06:44 PM
Or he can just go by his middle name. There's a lot of people at our church that go by a nickname or middle name. It's always weird to find out what their real name is...Lol:)

People can never spell or say my first name.

Whenever I order coffee & they ask my name, I don't spell it, but wait & see if they spell it in a way that they can remember how to pronounce it... and they never do. I get called all sorts off things!

Most people don't ask me how to spell my last name, tho... thankfully!

Oh, that makes me remember... once at work, I was talking on the phone to this guy with a really strong Asian accent. I had to ask him his name 3 times, and still couldn't understand what he was saying. So I said, "Would you mind spelling that for me?"

He pretty much yelled, "SMITH!!! S-M-I-T-H!!"

Oh, ok. I would never had guessed that's how you spell it!!

My last name's pretty easy to pronouce, but people are always chopping off the 'on' at the end...or putting "x" instead of "ck"...or putting in an extra 'e' between the 'd' and the 'r'...it's so annoying.

My sis would be pleased to hear that. I think she suits her name 'Lily' but she's not buyin it. Isn't it amazing that you can spend a lot of time and effort finding a nice name for your child and then they grow up and not like it. My dad saw my certificate for my degree the other day and saw that my middle name was missing from it. He was like 'why didn't you put it on there, don't you like it?'. i just remembered a name, well it's not exactly a name, at least i haven't heard of anyone being called it, but i like Calumus. It is one of the special oils that was used in the temple. i think there was like 4 different oils that was mixed together and Calumus was one of them. i wanted my mom to call Samuel, Calumus, but dad said no.

i like really wierd names like names of jewels- Ruby, Saphirare (spelt wrong i think), Emerald, etc.
or names of places- Israel, Bethlehem, Judah, etc.
i know really wierd but oh well:)

Oh yeah, and another girls's name for me would be Calantha Joy. Put together, it means "A joyful and beautiful blossom".
So Tirah Grace and Calantha Joy.....wonder if a guy would ever go for those names? :) And Calantha could go by Callie or C.J. ....

I think cool/different names are fun, but there is a line to draw, I think. I think there is a time when you go too far in naming your kids. It's not fair for them to have to put up with a name that people will make fun of them for, and misconstrue. Of course, kids find ways to make fun of just about anything, but there is a line. Just my opinion. :D

One of the ladies I work with named her sons Naaman, Simeon & Jonathan.

She was telling me that Naaman never complained about his name, but one day he came to her and said, "Why did you give me a middle name like Timothy? It's a strange name!!"

She said, "Well, what about Tim So-&-so, and Tim Such-&-such?"

He couldn't believe that Tim was short for Timothy.

I just thought it was funny that he'd complain about his middle name, and not his first name!!

Hi, all! I'm new to the forum.

This discussion caught my eye because I recently went to Biblical-Baby-Names.com because I wanted to search for names you don't see very often. Some of the girl names I found were Salome, Susanna, and Lydia. Just a few suggestions.

if that's the one i'm thinking of its pronounced Sal-O-Mae and she was Herrodias' daughter...the one who danced for Kind Herrod and then asked for John the Baptist's head...

But there may be another one that I dont know of.

Yeah, there's two in the Bible. In Jesus' time, it was one of the more common names. It's cool, but people would probably think of the wrong Salome. And that would not be good.

They’re Not All Mine!

A woman drove a mini-van filled with a dozen screaming kids through the mall parking lot, looking for a space. Obviously frazzled, she coasted through a stop sign.
"Hey, lady, have you forgotten how to stop?" yelled an irate man. She rolled down her window and said, "What makes you think these are all mine?"

This discussion caught my eye because I recently went to Biblical-Baby-Names.com because I wanted to search for names you don't see very often. Some of the girl names I found were Salome, Susanna, and Lydia. Just a few suggestions.

The girl's name Salome is of Hebrew (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/search/0/hebrew) origin, and its meaning is "peace (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/search/0/peace)." Possibly from the same root as the greeting (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/search/0/greeting) "Shalom." Biblical (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/search/0/biblical): name of a woman who danced for King (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/search/0/king) Herod (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/search/0/herod) and demanded for John the Baptist's head (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/search/0/head) as her reward. The name was used somewhat in the 19th (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/search/0/19th) century (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/search/0/century).

sis trev- is it true what they say about it being easier having the second one. like two isn't twice as hard to control. I always heard that after 3 it gets eaiser...But I don't want to have the 4th one to find out.:)

As for it being easier after you have the second one...that all depends on how close together in age they are. My boys are about a month shy of being 2 years apart and let me tell you...it was not easier than having just one. Especially if one is a 2 year old and the other a newborn. Going places without another adult just becomes more of a challenge. It can be done, but you have to get creative sometimes. And that only intensifies with the more kids you have. It's a lot easier to wait till the one is 3 or so before having another one. There is 3 years between my last 2 and that was a lot easier than 2 years.

Did that help any or just scare you away from ever wanting more?

last week I was watching my sister's twins and I brought the three of them to the store, I told the Twins who are 5, no talking, no touching anything and keep one hand on the cart. The behaved very well, but they were not my kids and I don't have them all the time.

I could see how hard it would be to carry a 2 year old and a baby seat at the same time. My daughter is already almost 2 so if we have another one she will be 3 by then.

I use cloth diapers when we are at home. And we are going to be potty training as soon as my bathroom gets finished this next week.

I'm still not sure If I want to have more, but I'm sure we probably will anyway.

I have two friends who have had twins, actually they are cousins. The first girl had an awful time with hers... they were colicky and seemed to get every infection or fever possible. But they are fine now :)
Her cousin just had hers a couple months ago... they are the perfect babies. They both sleep 6 hours a night, never seem to cry, they don't even dirty their diapers! (ok, that was an exaggeration).
