View Full Version : Questions re: wyr clothing...
Hey girls...
I got a question...what do you all wear at the wyr?
I live in California...and I am never ever in the snow...and have only been to the snow like maybe 2 or 3 times in my life and that was when I was younger...
So how do you dress stylishly but warm?? Cause I don't wanna go around with so many layers I feel like a marshmellow...but I don't wanna be froze either. So tips please?
oh and another thing. i think college girl said she makes her dress every year for the banquet or something. Is it a formal banquet or what?
Help!

Woolen skirts, corderoy (sp?) jackets, boots....turtleneck sweaters/shirts....thermals....um....heavy socks....down/fleece coats....
I've never been to the WYR, but I do live in snow, so that's what I would wear....

Yes, what Alana said, I would get one heavy coat, and then some smaller stuff, like turtlenecks, sweaters, sweatshirts, thick socks, boots, mittens, scarves...
I would get maybe 2 pairs of mittens/gloves so that when one gets wet, you can use the other pair. You would only need one scarf, unless you want two. Most people get sets of scarves, mittens, and hats, which I would also recommend, as your head can and will get cold. Ear muffs might also be a worthy investment if you decide not to go with a hat, as cold ears hurt when they warm up.
Generally, most people wear 1-2 pairs of socks in the winter. Stocks or tights also help keep all of your legs warm, not just the feet like socks. You should be able to get away with just one pair of boots, but like socks, they can get wet...(oh, yeah, you will want to bring double the amount of socks you would normally wear cause they can get wet, esp if you accidentally splash in a puddle.)
BTW, I am talking as someone who would come from the heat who wouldn't normally be in cold weather. Cold weather for the first time is really really cold. Layering is important, as you go from building to building, and the heating differences, and your activity does as well. You might get hot in the gym, (yes, I have seen people dripping sweat in there), but it might be cooler if you are just sitting there, or if you are in the dining room.
As for the formal, most people dress up, as for some (like me) is the big event of the year. I have seen a lot of girls wearing nice sating dresses, and really fancy hair styles, curls and fancy hair accessories. Last year one girl even wore a tiara. And yes, for the past two years I have made my dress, and I am going to be making it again this year. I can be available if anyone has trouble doing their hair, but I would need to know in advance.
I have had a blast every year, especially regarding the winter part, as I have missed that so much from when I used to live up north. I will be there, and having a blast right along with whomever comes. I hope to see many of you all there, and am excited at the number of people who are coming from YQ. Any other questions regarding what happens there, you can ask me or Joe or hotshot or NoahL, or anyone else who has been there. Also, see the pictures in the galleries from WYR. The worship there is incredible! I leave feeling so renewed every year, and the fellowship alone makes it worth coming. I can't wait to see everyone there...:yay:
