I think it would be cool to discover new ways to do things, how to do things that I never new how to do, or never thought of. Like with clothes, and cooking, and hair.

Speaking of hair, here's one: if you want shiny hair, put baking soda in your shampoo. Not the whole bottle, but when you put the shampoo in your hand, put about half of a tablespoon or more (depending on your type of hair) in the shampoo and mix it up. Then wash your hair like regular. It really works! I love the results. It says it is supposed to help remove build up from shampoos and hair products. Also, when you do a final rinse on your hair, rinse in the coldest water possible, and let air dry. What else?

hmmm... interesting is that for all types of hair

Yes, I don't see why not. I have tried it on mine, and it works wonderfully. Another thing is if you add conditioner to your hair, don't rinse it all of the way out. Rinse out about only half, and I usually do it right before I get out. What type of hair do you have?

A hairdresser told me that i must never wash out all the conditioner out of my hair so i know that one is true. u must always leave a little in

I don't know about leaving conditioner in, at least for my hair. I have pretty curly, dry hair, but if i leave some conditioner in, it makes my hair weighed down. Also, if I put it in the top of my hair, it makes it even drier. A deep conditioner is the best, as well as hot oil treatments. I would like to know if anyone knows of a particular shampoo or conditioner for curly that actually works, I would be grateful. I've tried a few and they mostly just smell gross and dont' do much.

I love curly hair! I have wavy hair, and it holds curly pretty well, but you can do so much with curly hair. I have actually heard not to use detergents on curly hair, and not to brush curly hair, but to use a wide-tooth comb, or even your fingers, to comb it out when it is wet. Have you ever finger-combed conditioner into your hair when it was wet? It feels SO SILKY! When you dry your hair, blow dry it if you are using a diffuser. It helps give your curls shape, or if you don't use a blow-drier, when you step out of the shower, don't twist squeeze your hair. Take a large, dry towel, and scrunch it until it is about 50% dry. I know someone that has very curly hair, and she tried it, and she said her curls turned out great. Also, what you could do is make a conditioner spray. What I do is take about 80% warm water and 20% conditioner and mix it in a spray bottle, and spray it on my hair.

I have curly hair also, and i've found that it's not the shampoo or conditaer that makes a diffrent on my hair, its the mousse, I don't know if you use mousse or not but the type of mousse i use determans if it's going to FrIzZy
or nice and calm haha. And the best i've found is "TRESemme" and i've tryed
all kinds, also for dry hair or scalp Green Tea shampoo and conditaner works
well yuo can only get it at a bauty store but it's good

I rarely use mousse or gel, but I have heard that mousse works really well on curly hair. Do you use a diffuser at all? Thanks for giving a name brand. Has anyone used the Fructis line? It comes in a lime green bottle, and I have heard it is really good, but I try not to spend my money on very expensive hair care products unless they work.

I use shampoo and conditioner that moisterizes my hair, neither are detergents. I never brush my hair when it's dry unless I want to scare someone. I normally use my fingers in the shower, very gently because it does cause my hair to come out much easier. I never blow dry my hair because it makes if frizzier and not as healthy. I scrunch my hair with a towel and without, and use tons of mousse. I don't normally use gel because it makes my hair sticky and I can feel that there is stuff in my hair. I get tired of always having to put something in my hair, and mousse is the best because you don't normally feel it, like gel. I would like to find a shampoo or conditioner that helps curly hair specifically, but I'm not sure if there is one. Like I said, I've tried a few and most of them don't do too much.

I would like to recommend a book to you. The only thing is that I cannot remember the name and author of it. If I run across it, then I will get you the title and author. It is written by a woman with curly hair to women with curly hair, with tips and secrets on how to take care of it. What makes it so good is that she has written the book with personal experience. It might take a while to find the book though.

Okay, here it is. You can find it on www.barnesandnoble.com, and the name of it is Curly Girl, and it is by Lorraine Massey and Deborah Chiel, and it is about $10. They have several other books, but I have read this one, and it is good, and I am recommending it to you. I try to recommend things that I am sure of, or have at least used, or familliar with.

One thing i will not recommend anyone to use is gel and those hair sprays that stiffen the hair, i used one about a week ago and from the next day my hair has been dropping. Now i have to go and do a steam and treatment to prevent it from dropping. Or else i will get bald

collegegirl
11-03-2005, 10:42 AM
Well then, if you go bald, then you don't have to worry about washing your hair, you just have to slap on a wig! I don't use hairspray very often. I like to joke around and say that my brothers use more hairspray than I do. :D (which they do!) Does anyone know any alternatives to hairspray? I have read a little lemon juice mixed with water will help a little.

blessed

Lemon juice and water? i have never heard of that, have u ever tried it. I really don't think i will like to go bald, i might be tempted to wear some really funky wigs :D .

Guys usually use more hair stuff than girls, isint that strange, i know this brother sometimes his hair never moves now i know why lol

My hair has gotten longer in the last couple of years, and as it's gotten longer, the ends have started to look less healthy. I'm trying to leave a bit of conditioner in it, trying to put leave-in conditioner in it...

What do y'all do for your ends?

Any tips would be great! :p

collegegirl
11-05-2005, 04:32 PM
Have you tried any hot oil treatments? Also, I hear that the Fructis line has split end treatments, and one girl was talking about using it. She said it worked to well that her b/f thought that she had trimmed her hair again. (This was at school). I have yet to try it b/c I don't get out to stores much, but when I can I am going to try it to see if it works. Caution: Remember, any item in a name brand line is going to cost a lot!

11-05-2005, 11:20 PM
i have a problem with split ends too, do the hot oil treatments work for those cause i have tried almost everything. I have heard of the fructius line ( hope i spelled it correct) is it good and what's the price range for it.

In the caribbean things like that are usually expensive especially if it works.

Thanks, girls! Maybe I'll try the fruiticus line--or the hot oil treatment... or both!

Though, I do have some faves for everyday maintenance...

I love Aussie's DEEEP 3-Minute Miracle conditioner (I use it almost every day)
And I also love John Frieda's "Step 2" spray--it's basically a spray/leave-in conditioner that includes lots of great vitamins, etcetera.

I know that the JF line is more expensive... but it's not as bad as salon prices... or Bath and Body Works!

God Bless!

I dont care for the fructis line....it works great at first, but after about a half of a bottle, it turned my hair frizzy and really dry.... but that was just my experience

collegegirl
11-19-2005, 01:22 PM
Well I have found that the very basics, very inexpensive stuff works great on my hair. I am not one for a lot of products in my hair. I try not to use heat on my hair, either.

marichino_freedom
11-25-2005, 03:36 AM
true, i usually stick to suave or salon selectives. i have found a leave in conditioner that is fantastic (its a split end mender/detangler) and its TIGI bedhead and it runs between ten and fifteen dollars for a bottle (this is the ONE hair product i splurge on) and it last for quite some time because all you really need is 3-4 squirts

collegegirl
11-26-2005, 02:44 PM
(its a split end mender/detangler) and its TIGI bedhead
Which product line is that?

Oh, and I haven't quite brought myself to buy a bottle of Fructis hair stuff yet. :D Just still too expensive for me to plurge on.

marichino_freedom
12-14-2005, 08:45 PM
so far i have only seen the TIGI line at salons, but i found it pretty cheap at JC pennys salon ($13.00)....well, cheap for a salon. its worth the splurge, my hair is so soft! plus, i have had it since august and only half of the bottle is gone!

I love Dove hair products. They make your hair super soft and they are very moisturizing, which is a necessity for my curly/frizzy/dry hair. I use Dove with my salon brand, Curl.Life Matrix shampoo and conditioner because it doesn't moisturize very much, so I add Dove which seems to enhance the product.

collegegirl
12-19-2005, 01:20 PM
How expensive does it usually run? It is pretty easy to find?

marichino_freedom
12-29-2005, 11:41 PM
I like the dove products too, but my mom gave me a gift certificate to a salon and she said it was to get my split ends trimmed, but as i dont have any split ends at this point in time, i asked her if i could use it for some products, so i bought the Biologe shampoo and conditioner (I LOVE THIS STUFF) and a Paul Mitchell color enhancing shampoo for dark hair. But, my friend told me her mom is a hair stylist and could get me the Large bottles for about ten dollars (super cheap deal)! i am so excited.

Babyruth
12-30-2005, 01:31 AM
Dove products are pretty cheap, at least here. They are around $2.50 for a bottle. I think, I can't quite remember, but they are less than $3. I've never tried Biologe or Paul Mitchell. I've seen them, but never tried them. Do you normally trim your split ends marachino? That's cool that you can get a good deal on those products. They are quite expensive, but hopefully they work ok.

E-65 Women, stop cutting your hair; start living like Christian women. Men, quit the things that you're doing. The Christian Church should conduct itself like sons and daughters of the King, living godly in this present world. Do you believe that? Let us bow our heads just a moment, now.

THE.GREATEST.NEWS.FLASH.IN.HISTORY_ CHICAGO.IL MONDAY_ 61-0424 E-31 What we want to do today is don't look towards those poor mournful garlic eaters back there, back in the wilderness, wanting the flesh pots of Egypt, were wearing shorts and dresses and painted lips, and cutting their hair, and denying the power of God. Let them alone. They'll perish there in the wilderness. Let us follow our great Joshua. (Hallelujah.), our Leader. Don't ask no questions; just keep in step; that's all. Just keep moving on. Don't look back to them; don't pay any attention to them. If they want to stay in Egypt and thirst for the things of the world, and all their old movie stars and mimics and everything, let them go on. We look to Jesus. We look to our Joshua.

I didn't mean to cause trouble, I was just wondering. I don't agree with trimming your hair, it's the exact same as cutting. One inch or 1/2 and inch is no different that 1 foot or 1.5 a foot, at least to me. I don't think women in the Bible trimmed their split ends, they didn't cut it at all. I've never cut my hair because I've been in the Message my whole life, praise the Lord. I don't look down on anyone who cut their hair before being in the Message because they didn't know, but after you know, I find it hard to think it's ok. I'm thankful that God has allowed me the priveledge to have a pastor that believes everything the Bible says and believed in the prophet. Again, I'm sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings, I didn't mean to.

Ok, so, thirty minutes after i started reading all the replies to this post, i finished. :)

Then i forgot about all the stuff i was gonna reply to!!!

I remember about the Horse shampoo though!

I've never tried it, but was tempted to once, except i found a cheaper one. Hehehe... I don't like to buy expensive stuff either!

One of the things i've noticed is that, since i don't cut my hair at all, it's better to stay aways from chemicals, which mess with the chemical composition of hair, damaging it.

I began to pay more attention to the ingredients when i took a chemistry course and learned more about them. Try to keep it natural...

Use products that contain natural ingredients. Dove products contain many amino acids, which build up proteins. That's good because our hair is made up of protein. (actually that's what i use right now!)

So, Dove is good, BUT i have one problem with it. I have curly hair and Dove products make it SOOOOOO soft that the curls don't really curl "all the way" it's hard to explain...

BUT, you can be sure it won't damage your hair...

Yaaahhh!!! Someone else has curly hair! Maybe others do, but now I know one for sure! I agree, Dove is awesome, but it does make it so soft that it just wants to be weird. That's why I use it with my curly hair shampoo and conditioner. Theyseem to work well together.

I used to use baby shampoo, (gotta love Johnson&Johnson) and a regular conditioner, but I am definately going to have to check out the Dove products....I am using a Fructis one right now.

As for the Mane and Tail horse shampoo, I hear that it is really good, and I know quite a few people who use it. They rave about it. I have yet to try it. Maybe someday...

Oh, and those of you with curly hair, do you scrunch-dry your hair? I do that sometimes, and it seems to come out a little curlier. My hair has a light curl, and I have long hair, so it kinda weighs it out, but people have asked me if I had a perm when I have scrunch-dried it with gel before, which gives it about the same kind of curl when I do it without the gel, only it lasts longer. :D LOL Say that three times fast.

Babyruth
01-16-2006, 03:08 AM
I always scrunch my hair. Yeah, my hair is longer so it does make my hair less curly than if it was shorter, but I wish my hair was even longer! I normally use mousse instead of gel because I always have to put stuff in my hair, so I like to use something as light as possible. My hair is curlier depending on the weather and when I put stuff in it. The top isn't very curly by itself because my hair is longer, so it pulls. But, when I put it in a bun when it's wet and take it out when it's dry, it's super curly! It goes only half way down my back instead of past my waist. It's funny and annoying. Everytime I wear my hair down to school, which isn't much, I tuck it in my hood or something and EVERYONE asks me if I cut it!!!! It is soooooo annoying!!!!!!!

i wash my hair every day and it is cutting. i dont know whater it is cutting coz of washing or of it is cutting coz of braiding it. anyhow, i had relaxed it with chemicals for it to be straight( you know how kinky afro hair can be) so now it cuts so often. maybe i should have left it natural.

it does? oh well, never smelt a shampooed horse before...*shrugging* but anyway, tell me, my chemicalised hair is cutting off. it will all cut off as i have decided to let it be natural. i feel that is what God wants. i am not saying it is the message, i just feel for me it is best. well, so anyhow, should i let it fall of or should i cut off the top and leave the natural so that the falling hair wont affect the hair that is left?

The curl shampoo I use works pretty well. If I don't do anything to my hair, it curls, but it looks like super fuzzy dreadlocks. It's looks terrible! I put mousse and curl serum and it looks way nicer. You can see the curls and it doesn't look like I haven't combed my hair for years.

Hi namwacha,
i just read your post, if you feel natural is the way to go then that's your choice but i don't agree with you wanting to cut your hair ( see my previous post on quotes ) it is not right, if you want to go natural continue braiding your hair, it will break a bit but that is part of the process, make sure and steam your hair and use some hair food that will strenghten your hair , it will take some time though for it to go back natural..but i would not recommend you dishonouring yourself to go back natural..

how does everyone feel about cancer patients. my grandma is pentecostal (so they feel the same about hair), but a lady in her church is going through chemo and was starting to lose her hair, so she shaved all of it off and wears a scarf. what about then?

The main thing the prophet emphazised was: do NOT cut your hair!
I personally dont think it is wrong for you to use synthetic braids if your own hair is not long enough to be braided on its own. Although I dont really like if ppl use some other kind of color in the braids (like if your natural hair was black you would braid into it some blonde braids). But this is just my PERSONAL opinion!
All I know for sure: By no means cut it! (thatīs what the prophet said).

thanks girl. i also dont like the idea of people using different colored braids, it looks so worldly. anyway, i was also thinking the same about braiding but i will pray first.

It is my personal opinion that for your purpose its ok to braid your hair but discuss it with your pastor and pray about it
