Have any of you ever heard of the saying the next girl to catch the boquet at a wedding is the one to be married next. Well for those of you who don't know better i have been catching them from about 16 years and still single.
So don't believe that :D just old wives tales

I caught one when I was about 13, and I am still single. But aren't you glad you didn't catch one at a wedding where they had the garter toss? One of my sisters has done that twice. She quickly handed it to another girl the first time, and the other time she had to dance with the guy who caught the garter. The funny thing is, both times the guy was under 12 years old!

Ha ha, boy am i glad that did not happen it would have been horendous. how old was your sister when that happened. uggghhhhhh.... well the last one i caught was in July, at a friends wedding so and they got really excited.. then i just had to dash their hopes and inform them that this is my second job  catching boquets.. actually it was my fifth stint. :D.
i think that it is really funny. i think it is because im tall. Or one of my missions in life is to prove that saying wrong :D .
Well we'll see.

Well, the first time was when she was about 18, and then the other happened just a few months ago, so she was about 20.

I wonder how they came up with that conclusion. Maybe someone can try to find out for me .

Well, have you ever heard the ones about company? When you drop a fork, you are going to have company, a knife, it will be a male, etc?

I got it from a book called "So Dear To My Heart", by Jane Goyer. Here is what is said. She was talking about her mother:
"If Moma's nose itched, she insisted that company was coming. If she dropped a knife, that was a sign a man was coming. And if she dropped a fork, then it was a woman on the way."
I guess with the glass or plate, you just have to replace it. :p

Very interesting, its amazing how the older generation was. i know this sounds funny but some of these things are true, like for instance when my right eye twitches there is major trouble ahead.
I have seen it happen time after time,

I know what you mean. As for the glass or plate dropping, it predicts major upset somewhere in the house, especially if it is Mom's good china! LOL :D

Well for the longest time, we have had mix and match dishware, b/c we were so little, and there was so many of us that she didn't want to risk breaking any good china. Now she has some new everyday dishes, and she has recently added on to her finer china. I don't think any one has broken any of her better china, and maybe only a bowl of the everyday china.

I recently broke one of my moms vision wear pot covers, someone gave her it for a gift i think it was my Dad, not sure. my brother did not place it in the cupboard properly so when i opened the door it just came crashing onto the ground in a million pieces. I don't think i'll never hear the end of that even though it was not my fault.

I had an interesting break. You know the fridges that have the thing that you can press and out comes ice? Well, ours sometimes gets a little frozen shut, and it is hard to get opened. I was pressing hard with the glass, and then suddenly, the top half of the glass broke. I was holding the bottom half, but the top half was in pieces all over the floor. Needless to say, I have never tried to force the thing to open again with a glass.

She gave me the look. :thelook:
Actually, she was not happy, and she gave "the sigh", and she cleaned up the glass while I went to go put on some type of shoe so that I wouldn't get glass in my foot while I vaccuumed up the rest of the chards.

You know i actually prefer my mom say something than the look and the sigh it just makes me feel extra guilty

Isn't that the truth. They really have perfected the way to make one feel really bad without even saying anything. You know the saying, a picture is worth a thousand words, and then when they add the sigh, the guilt just pours on.

well the funny thing about that tale is..here in our place....we always avoided the bouquet during weddings...most of the times....it would end up on the floor.....heheheh!!!!!!!!!

i have had some embarassing situations where i tried to avoid it and the MC for the wedding called me..imagine that then everyone in the wedding knew i was single..so to avoid further embarassment i just go one boquet almost went smack into my face once

11-22-2005, 07:21 PM
hahah that's pretty hilarious...in our place...all the single ladies are called out by names to go to the front to catch the bouquet...
blessed
11-22-2005, 07:28 PM
ohhh that must be dreadful...there is no way avoiding that
morning_mist
11-22-2005, 07:32 PM
my sentiments exactly...so if you know you are single...don't wait for them to call you...march to the front right away and of course just avoid the bouquet...hahaha!

For one of my friends wedding i tried to duck out of it but she insisted that she will not throw it until im in the crowd, so being the tallest it would have been an easy throw, this sister whose daughters were also in the group came up to me and said rather loud, Don't u catch that boquet give someone else a chance...well u know what happened my friend threw it in the air in my direction mind you and i caught it :D, that one i did on purpose, then i just looked at the sister and smiled

Huh, well, I caught it once, only to have my older sister rip it out of my hands, because we both caught it at the same time, and she was right behind me, and I didn't have a good grip on it. She wasn't trying to be mean.

I am never a believer of superstitions (interesting most them are though) but speaking about weddings, they also say that "three times a bridesmaid, never a bride". Well, i had been a bridesmaid three times and im still single..hahaha..what can you say about this??
collegegirl
11-26-2005, 02:57 PM
Well, they also say "Marry in black, wish yourself back", and "Back luck for seven years if you break a mirror". I say Pshaw! I broke a mirror, and I didn't even get into trouble. Seven years bad luck? I broke it about 2 years ago, and I can't think of a time when I have been more blessed. Any doubts still? :D
