A sister at my church has started a business called New Creations, I think. I keep forgetting the name. She gave me her business card and I keep forgetting where I put it. She has a website, but it's not available to sell skirts yet, just showing prototypes. Her skirts are very good quality and are a bit more expensive than some, but definately worth it. She sells all kinds of skirts. Jean, casual, dressy, etc. Also, they have no slits and no zipper fronts. So, I'll get the site as soon as I can.

They do have some very nice skirts.
Question... Why do you all not like zippers? They don't bother me... lol.
Yeah, why don't you all? I mean, they're just there. Then again... yeah. Never mind.

I don't mind zippers, you kind of need them to get into your skirt, but I mean like a fly, like on a guy's pair of pants. I had never really thought about it until my pastor mentioned it a couple of years ago, but why does a girl need a fly on her skirt? It is part of a man's garment, so even though it's a skirt, it's kind of pertaining to a man's garment. There was a lot of discussion about it, and lots of mixed feelings. But for me, of course I have my opinion. I have tons of skirts with flies, because that's how they made most skirts. Now, they are making them less with flies because they look dumb with them. But, I would like to fix my skirts, it's a lot of work though. And, I think twice before buying a skirt with a fly, just because it's not really necessary. However, I don't think less of anyone with them, because I have them. And I don't think less of anyone without them, because I agree. It's a tough topic, but I do my best to avoid them.

hope that doesnīt sound stupid.
But what does it mean: "a fly" ?
(Iīm german)
whatīs the difference between a fly and a zipper?
I donīt get it.
I donīt have a problem with a zipper at the front of my skirt (although I prefer it at the back or even the side for comfy sake).
In fact normaly you need a zipper for a skirt to get in and out :)
I canīt see anything masculin about that. Iīd rather have a decent skirt with a zipper at the front than 'something else' with a zipper at the back...
just my thoughts.

Yes, zippers are needed to get into most skirts, which is totally fine. My definition of a fly is a zipper in the front of a skirt designed how they are done in pants.
If anyone is interested in listening to the services that were preached about this topic (well this just part of a larger topic), here's the link. Select Year: 2004, Minister: Ed Byskal and it was preached Sept. 28

Sorry I don't get it what's wrong with a fly, most my skirts have the zips at the side or back but I don't see anything wrong with a zip in front. I'll need to think more on that.
AlanaH

I don't really see the point for having the zipper in the front, it's just as easy to put it in the back or on the side, but after our pastor mentioned the reason for it (as being made and designed like pants), it totally made sense to me. I guess it was just something that people had really never thought about before.
My take on the matter is basically this: That came over the pulpit when a minister of God was preaching under the anointing of God, so I take it as God was ministering, regardless of any personal feelings that might have been in the audience at the time, so I listened.
Just my personal feelings.
P.S. NewCreation skirts are awesome!!!!! ( I have three of the jean ones with embroidery and they are nice enough for church and just about anything, also very comfy and you have lots of room to move without looking like a Spanish galleon in full sail):)

i prefer zippers. i dont like the way elastic feels....too pinchy. i like drawstrings though. dont get me wrong, i do have some elastic, but i buy it a couple sizes bigger because i dont like the way it feels

that's basically how i am also. my cousin stopped wearing zippers in the front and i basically follow her lead, so i stopped. then i realised "i'm living off of somebody elses revelation and not my own." i personally saw and see no problem with it so i wear them, but i also totally respect people that don't agree with them. that's my 2 cents

What Alana says is true, NewCreation skirts are so comforable and nice quality and good for believers.
The whole issue with the fly fronts is a bit complicated, but boys/men use flies for their pants for obvious reasons. Flies were created in jeans for men's bodies. When the fashion industry started making pants for women, they made them just like men's pants, or men's garments, fly and all. Well, women are obviously made differently than guys, so why would a woman need a fly front? Good question. And, like many people say, and I do agree with, "who cares?" Sure, you may not use the fly like a guy does, but why even bother having it there?
The fly front makes a skirt more masculine, which is one of the issues of this age, women wearing men's garments, men wearing women's garments. Of course you need some way to get into your skirt, and zippers are the most comfortable, but they can just as easily, actually, more easily be put in the side or back, and not look like a fly.
Before my pastor preached about it, I never thought about it. But, once he mentioned it, every time I look at a fly, I think of it's real purpose and I wonder why I need it, or why a girl/woman needs it on her skirt. And like I said before, I still have skirts with it, and I don't condemn anyone or think less of anyone for having them, but I do try to avoid them just because I don't need them.

I love their clothes.
And I really don't have anything against zippers, but I do have something against the ones that tend to bulge. I try to stay away from those.
Though most of the skirts that I have been wearing recently have had zippers on the side, or invisible. I love the invisible zippers.

Yeah, when I was looking for a modest prom dress, all the sites I found were by Mormons. It's kind of funny to me, because the Mormons here don't dress especially modest. Some do, but very few. In high school, a few of my friends were Mormons and it was really nice because they were good kids, didn't drink, smoke, party, etc. They were fun to be around. They'd make great believers!

I didn't used to think think there was anything wrong with zippers until my mother mentioned it and stopped wearing them. And even for awhile I kept wearing them but eventually I didn't begin to feel that they were more masculine and I didn't like that. And I hope I am not stepping on any ones toes as this is only personal conviction, but I am also not at all a fan of making a skirt out of pants. Mainly because they were pants before and I will always remember that. I just love to be feminine and so try with the Lord's help to avoid all things even slightly masculine. God bless you all as I know you all want His way to be your way and of course only He can show you what that is.

its all about the intentions.....true, they WERE intended to be pants in their original state, but their intentions now are to be a skirt. the bible says not to wear anything pertaining to a man, but, even though they used to pertain to a man, i'd like to see any man wear them after they are "converted"

Hey, I went into that store that has those suits last night, and I didn't see them on the wall where they had been. They were on a rack like the others on sale, but I didn't see a sale price or anything like that. So a lady walked by and asked me if I needed any help, so I asked if they were on sale. Turns out the $24.99 jackets and the $19.99 bottoms were $3.99 a piece! So I walked out with 3 suits, but I have to do a little converting before the suits are ready for wear...

That's awesome! I love getting deals like that! Once I took a suit that had a long jacket (like the kind almost to the knees) and a sleeveless dress and took darts out of the dress and did some weird alterations to make it into a skirt. As long as the jacket stays down, it looks pretty good, but I could never wear the skirt by itself....but it's kind of small right now, so I haven't worn it in a while. :(

So do guys........
Funny thing about that is that Guys seem to like it when their girl is modest and keeps the skin just for them to see in private.
I've heard a lot of guys comment about how the respect the fact that I dress modestly and really like it. but at the same time it is in guys sin nature to google at skin. So in being modest we respect them by not tempting their sin nature

The people I was referring to were ungodly people. Although some guys may respect modesty, many still like to see flesh.
Believers have to battle the spirits. For females is about not presenting yourself in a way that could cause someone to commit adultery and for the men, it's not lusting after the women and committing adultery.

That IS an interesting read....although I don't know see any trend happening towards modesty. It just won't happen!
I could see it happening in a very sly way. Bro. Branham said that in the end, that things would be so close it could deceive the elect, if it were possible. So, before, clothing was so disgusting and styles were/are extrememly immodest that we know that it's wrong. But, with the new "modest" style coming in, I can see where it could be used to deceive more people. Not exactly sure how, but, for example, skirts that skim the knee are supposed to be popular. Well, as Christians, we want our clothes to be modest. So, with the new "modest" knee-skimming skirts now popular, are we going to adjust our standards because they are almost modest, or are we still going to stand strong? That's kind of what I mean.

i get what you're saying. it's like "well, as long as i dont sit down it covers my knees"......and someone trying to wear it. if there's any question about it, we should "leave it alone". i was feeling convicted by some of the shorter skirts i had, so i got rid of them. plain and simple.
Babyruth
02-28-2007, 08:03 PM
I'm glad you understand. :) I confuse myself often. Yeah, I know, so many girls I know either won't sit down, or bring a sweater to cover up their legs. It's kind of silly. I like to have a sweater just in case, but not because my skirt it too short to sit properly.
marichino_freedom
02-28-2007, 08:07 PM
right. i had some skirts that would just barely cover my knees when i sat down. i got rid of them. then i got rid of some that were a little longer, but still not the best
and if they have to hide their knees with a sweater, then that should tell them something!

it is interesting how convicted some people feel, it seems that some of those raised in the message have a harder time getting convicted about skirt length, It either they don't worry about it cause they like wearing the longer skirts or they start play the game how short can I go.
I think it has to do with whether it's you personal walk with Christ or you parents and you are just riding a long.

lol, what you people call cheap is so expensive. I was so used to buying skirts for as little as 100 Kenyan shillings. That is more than one dollar but not quite 2 dollars since a dollar is like 72 kenyan shillings. And for tops i used to buy them for a small fraction of a dollar, like 10 shillings for some and upto 100 shillings. Not new ones of course but in brilliant condition.
I doubt i will be getting anything that cheap here in SA

thats why we have goodwill! :) on special tag color days, you can get things for 99 cents. and some things are GREAT!!! but others, not so much.....:ng_thumbd
in fact i'm wearing a skirt i bought for 2 dollars at goodwill, and its a satiny material, black and white, and has french words written all over it, with drawn ladies' silouettes.....its kinda cool.

It's is amazing what we Americans take for grant, Inflation here has a little to do with the factor, but it's funny to thank of it cause I know some one in China how lives on $200(american) a month income while we live on over $2,000 here and our money is still really tight.
finding cheap clothes is always something to be thankful for.

yeah... wish I did know how to design a skirt. or to sew for that matter. haha
Naomi Michelle
03-27-2007, 09:06 PM
ooh its not hard! I was just experimenting when i designed mine....its two pieces of fabric for the skirt, one roughly 33 inches long the other maybe 26 inches, then a piece for the waist, the skirt is pleated(not very even pleats either) and then a zipper...though I did have my dress form to help(so it would fit, not thast it gave me advice;)...), for a super simple one, but it probably wont fit as close, take a piece of fabric, make a loop at the top, thread your elastic through it, sew the elastic ends so they stay, then make your one seam in back, I made a skirt for my lil sis in about 15-20 minutes last night that way...not exactly how you are suppose to do the top/elastic, but who is gonna see that part!? haha

i need to learn to do zippers better......i end up misjudging and its too big on me! :012:
Naomi Michelle
03-27-2007, 09:15 PM
what was to big? the zipper or the skirt?
if the zipper was to long..how big are you using? they usually tell you 7-9 in on a skirt pattern...if the skirt was to big, how much extra fabric are you saving to put your zipper in? I used about 1/2 in extra, fold in under and pin....I've only learned from watching my grandma do it once...so I may even be doing it wrong...
marichino_freedom
03-27-2007, 09:27 PM

This is off topic, but... my great-grandma had 3 houses full of junk. She never threw anything away because it might be useful, she went through the Depression. But, when she died, they had to condemn the otherwise good houses, because they were so full of junk that they couldn't do anything with them. They were major fire hazards. My grandma was a bit odd.
