Lol, some guys may do it to try to win girls over... but for the main part, it's cause it's part of a guy's personality... guys' brains are just built differently than girls, and part of that is that guys are just naturally competitve.

I am usually very shy when it comes to "showing off". The only times I really do it are to win a girl's heart, or if someone asks me to demonstrate something (i.e., singing or playing piano). I have never met a girl who likes to show off, though I'm sure there are some that do.

Ok here's the deal. If a guy is really trying to show off, than yeah he's probably a loser that wants attention. Now if he happens to see a girl whom he might like watching him play volleyball, he might pay more attention to not messing up.. do I deem this showing-off... no.

There is a fine balance between trying to not be an idiot and showing-off. A guy almost has it in his nature to want to impress girls, it's something we have to control because we seek to impress that one girl that was for us (even though that can be disputed). But why does a husband like to surprise his wife with a gift even if they have been married 30 years? It is just in a man to want to make a girl happy. Of course, this is way different than "HEY EVERYBODY!! LOOK AT ME!! I'M AWESOME!!!"

Make sure you check up girls to make sure this dude is genuine. If he tends to have a problem with thinking a lot of himself (in which I have been there), then scorn him willfully so the rest of us guys don't have to. That is all...

I said something one time like all guys drive show-offy ( Is that even a word) or dumb (I do it sometimes my self) and this Brother says to me I don't . I was thinking like yeah right I have seen you do it try telling me it some other time.

I know for me. My truck is old and those of you who are going to be at sk camp will most likly see it. And well one thing I always or usauly do is squeal the tire's or burn out I guess you could say. Its not that I try to I just do. Its a standerd which makes it way easyer to do. Some try to do it and can't others don't want to do it and do. So what do you do about that. To some then it would look like I'm trying to show off but I'm not. And really my truck has nothing to show. Other then it drives and God Gave it to me.

The same one I have now, and the only one I've ever had... I work as an accountant at a small CPA firm. The main reason I paid it off so quick, is that I have like no other real expenses, and I've never been in the habit of going shopping except when absolutely necessary ;)

Ok, so I sooooo contemplated starting a different thread entitled

But figured what's the point of that.

To say that this is a guy only area is really short-sighted. (I mean that in the nicest way possible.)

I for one, am sick to death of girls "showing off".

As a guy, at least when I show off, I'm typically adequately dressed.

Now, let's look at both guys and girls and showing off.

It's all about insecurity. Really it is.. I was really loud and outspoken as a young teen. (as SisTrev can tell you) I was very insecure tho. I didn't think i was good looking, popular, etc... and when people laughed at my antics it felt really good. Teenage years can, after all, be very harsh.

So when you see a guy flinging himself 30 feet on a volleyball court... he's just trying to be accepted. Don't pity him, don't be revolted by Him....(unless he just wont quit...) Try to befriend Him. Give him verbal affirmation that you think he's a great guy...and fun to be around...even if he wasn't flinging himself all over like a crazed lunatic (showing off)

As for girls showing off... I have no idea what to do. but please... God thinks your beautiful...He created you in His image after all. You're one of a kind, unique. You don't have to show off.



Maybe if we all just tried to let go, and Let God thunder out of our lives we'd all be so much farther up the road....

Intereresting thread....But I think it for sure should not be only about guys. My goodness, I think girls are probably worse than guys! Because they they try to impress both genders. I may be wrong, but I think guys care more about impressing the girls, then the guys. But girls show off for the guys for one reason, but also for the girls in a competitive way.

I think it has to do with self-esteem. Normally when one shows off, they are trying to prove that they are better than someone else. But if you have a healthy self-esteem, you don't need to do that.

I can't think of any that I'd be "Wow! I just love their car!" I actually think most of the girls have nicer cars than the guys. Yea, I agree with that too, that after all, to show off, it's all based to insecure feelings. So far, when it comes to driving-manner, it's all about to achieve some reputation among other people, when someone tries to show off. "A tough guy", when some tire makes squeing sound (by driving too fast to a corner or so)... lol

I don't guys fully relise the presure that girls face when it comes to clothing. You know its alot easyer to desive a girl then a guy. And as girls we are the weaker vessul. God created us to be that way and when it comes to clothing most girls like to wear clothes that are nice and in styal. But you can do that with out dressing inmodest. And althought there are alot of girls in the churches... camps..... it can go on. That are christains. Claim to be even can be filled with God spirit. There are those girls out there that do dress modest.
I know this is a big isue and I would just like to say to girls out there that are dressing inmodest by well you know when its inmodest or not. You don't have to and you can be deliverd of that spirit. You know its satan that makes you do that. I am not saying this to step on poeples feet or try to preach at some sister out there or any thing like that. But I know what you are going though because I've been there and not to long ago God deliverd me of that spirit and after that I even had sisters come up to me and tell me I don't know what you were doing up there you dress modest. But here is the bottum line. Don't wear something for some one eles. Wear something that you know is modest. That you can feel comfortable in and not in the back of your mind wonder or have that little nagging feeling its to tight. Pray and ask God he will help you. He helped me.
Also for those of you who see people that are dressing inmodest don't harp on them pray for them. Because thats what my brother did and well It only pushes people away. Also you might dress modest like 99.9% of the time (that was me) but then that point .01% you don't. You wear somthing thats border lined. Don't just stay with what you know is modest.

Before I begin I would just like to say that this is going to be quite a long post so please bare with me. And most of all I hope this will help you all out there who are struggling because there is freedom and God wants you to taste it. With that being said I shall begain.
My testamony of deliverence from Immodesty!!
Well It all started before I actully got deliverd. Before then I thought I was doing really good. I was honestly doing my best. But I would slip and fall. Like I said prevously 99.9% of the time I do believe I was dressed modest.
Well my brother had been harping on me for a while telling me my clothes were to tight and on and on. Well I got anoined with it and went and talked to a paster freind of my because at that time I totaly did not agree with him. It felt like he was trying to change who I was. My paster Friend (he deals with teens. Dose there church youth Bible study.) who I really trust asked him what he thought. I know that he is a guy and he knows how guys think.
He turned the question back to me and said Do you think you dress modest?
I anwerd yes.
Then he gave me his opione.
He said from what I have seen you dress modest.
I knew that he was telling me what he really thought and it really ment alot to me. Also I asked one of my dear friends the same question and she gave me the same anwer.
So now you might be thinking ok if they both say you dressed modest and you really thought so your self how come latter you got deliverd. Well basicly I wanted peoples opione that I really trust. People who would not lie to me. Who I could depend on. But one thing I found is that they were not with me all the time. They did not see me every day.
And I had this one shirt that I really really liked. It was pink and soo cute. (girls I think you know what I'm talking about) Well any way evey time I would put it on. I had this feeling like it was to tight but I would wear it any way. (I'm saying all this to give you guys a back round. sometimes you can just say the testamony right when it happend but sometimes its also good to lay a foundation first.) Sisters in the church would tell me that it was fine but I knew it wasn't. Yet because I liked it so much I kept wearing it. But then one day I was praying and I just got rid of it. I gave it to my sister.
That was not the point of where I got delived.
Now on to the night when it happend.
It was good friday 2006 -- what date that was I don't know-- and it was youth. Well I was driveing my fathers truck for what reason I don't remember. And Brother Dawen who was doing youth that night wanted it to be at the church. Now that is a rare thing for us, its usauly held at some ones house. Some how I knew this wasn't going to be an every day Bible study. Well I had cleaned that after noon and was driving my dads truck to the church. Any way I get there and my two friends were already there and the doors were still locked so they hoped in with me and waited till they were un locked. Well in my truck you don't ever lock the doors becuase you might not be able to unlock it again. So well in my dads truck its differnt. So I told her to lock the pasenger side door and I locked mine. And what did I do but leave the keys in there. ( now I want you to know that this played a really important part in the night thats why I said it.) Back to this later
Well I was wearing a new outfit. Well new to me and the shirt was border lined. I knew it when I got it but I got it any way. So i was wearing this out fit. Pink shirt and jean skirt both new. And as I was sitting there I was getting more and more uncomfortible with what I was wearing so I got up and went to the truck to get my sweater. But when I got there it was locked and the keys were in there. I prayed and nothing happend. You know Jesus walked through locked doors and I do believe in miricals and I prayed that God would do one right there but He didn't. And I'm glad he didn't. Well then I had no choice but to go back in and satan was coming against me (you might know what that is like). Well all that service long what he spoke on hit me over and over agian. It was like He knew. I know he didn't but God sure did. It was not a service that I in my body wanted to hear but My spirit I was glad that i did.
At the end I went up for prayer. And the guys are on one side girls on the other side.
And I just said " I don't care who hears this becuase its the truth (I was kind of crying. Not hard but just a bit) I know that what I'm wearing is not modest and well I need God to do something for me yet I know I shouldn't even ask. (Brother Dawan just stood there in front of me. I expected him to pray for me but he didn't.)
Brother Dawen said (I don't say this to lift my self up in any way its just what he said.) This is the second time I have heard this. Once 15 years ago before you were in youth. A sister said I know when my clothes are to tight and the other sisters hung there heads because they new to.
And it toke alot of courage to do what she just did and God bless her for it.
As he began to talk again to the whole youth group I just stood there. Then he did something we didn't do for a long time. He called every one to the alter and we all joined hands. Guys to girls. ( There was a couple that was ingaded then (married now) and they were our meeting place.) He said sisters you pray for her and Brother's you pray for each other. He said I know some of you brothers struggle with a heavy foot. He didn't pull no punches he just said it how it was. Then we all prayed. After that we then prayed for my key problem.
Some of the brothers tryed to get it to unlock but it didn't work but my brother had an extra key and so he ended up unlocking it for me.
Now because of the fact my keys were locked made me relise that there is no way to trully hid whats wronge. God used that to show me that. And I am happy to say that that spirit died with in me that day. And I have not battled it since. Yes I still battle things But Praise God I have over come that one.
Now as I am in manitoba I have relise fully that I have over come by Gods grace becuase I don't pick something that i feel uncomfortible in any more. I don't feel the presure or I should say don't bow to the presure By Gods Grace that comes sometimes when I go shopping with my sisters who don't believe the same as I do. I do my best to dress like a christain ought to and I have had it happen where I know in my heart I am wearing something modest and satan will come and tell me that its not. I look in the mirrow and I know Its modest and I pray and wear it any way. Satan dosn't care what ditch he gets you into as long as he can get you into one. So sisters stay in the middle of the road and Brothers you as well.
God loves you, And he cares about you and what we do dose it maginfy Him or bring him shame???
I hope that this could have helped some one. I just want you sisters to know I've been there and believe me its alot funner to dress right then to dress wronge. You might disagree with me but I know that deep in your heart if you have a desire to serve God which only He can place there in the first place you agree with me. So don't let satan rob you. And if he has make a stop to it right now. Just where ever you are pray and ask God to deliver you from what ever it is that you are struggling with. God will if you are sincere and desporit. And then walk on. Claim it. Believe it. Hold to what God did for you.

In anwer to your question. In way I was doing it on purpose becuase I knew I shouldn't be doing it yet i would but I didn't know that at that time I had this spirit on me that was making me dress that way. I had heard it over the pulpit and heard Brother Branham say it but it was like i never really heard it before ontill that night. So I guess yes and no.. Yes in the way I knew that what I was doing was not right yet I knew that i could get away with it.
No in the way that I did not know till months later till well Good friday to be exact that I was bond by that.
Now I just thank God that I am free. If you want to talk about it more I'm more then happy to.

Intereresting thread....But I think it for sure should not be only about guys. My goodness, I think girls are probably worse than guys! Because they they try to impress both genders. I may be wrong, but I think guys care more about impressing the girls, then the guys. But girls show off for the guys for one reason, but also for the girls in a competitive way.

I think it has to do with self-esteem. Normally when one shows off, they are trying to prove that they are better than someone else. But if you have a healthy self-esteem, you don't need to do that.

The line "guys impress by what they drive," maybe it should read "guys impress by HOW they drive," because most of the guys from church don't have that nice of cars. I can't think of any that I'd be "Wow! I just love their car!" I actually think most of the girls have nicer cars than the guys. But, guys do tend to drive a little more crazy, resulting in much higher insurance....

I think we should be building each other up and helping each other further our walks with God.
