Hm..interesting thread. Is it to show how ignorant we are on these topics?? I'll share what I know. I have a '93 Acura Legend. Acura is the same as Honda, but under a different name, so they can charge more. My car is a MANUAL transmission, which means you use a clutch and have to shift between gears. It has a V6 engine, which I guess makes it a "high performance" vehicle. Oh, you don't call engines a V4, they are a "four cylinder." And V8's are pretty exciting because they are the high-powered ones that can go FAST. They come in cars like Crown Vics (which are what police use) and big trucks.
*hint* there is NO SUCH THING as "headlight fluid"

This is simply awesome I'm injoying it already. Don't you think the guys will or some at least be dieing to post on this but can't. Sorry I don't mean to be rude but it dose make me smile.
I drive a something................ year chevy S10 single cab also manule. I absolutly love the fact that I have to shift. I like the feeling of being able to have fun when I drive and also being able to controle the vical better then with an auto. Any way for looks it dose not look really great. Rust coverd, riped box, tail gate held to gether by a budgy cord, interure in not so great shape, no stairo, and gut less. Maxed out is 120 (in forth gear which gives you more power)
but you know the great thing about it is. Its really made me trust God. Theres many things I could testify about it and I might later but I want to just say. That when you drive something thats not really great and every one eles drives something way better just remember that if God gave it to you then be happy with it. Mine has its problems but I don't complain about them and sorry if it sounded like I did before. I was only trying to let you know what it was like. I am just thank full that I am still alive because if it was not for Christ keeping me safe on the road my funral should have happend months ago. NOT JOKING.

i wish i knew more about cars....but they never interested me at all until it came close to time for me to actually be able to drive one and then i didn't really care about engines and things. i just wanted a car that wasn't falling to pieces and i happened to like for whatever reason.
i drive a 2001 nissan altima that i'm madly in love with. even if i've already had to replace my tires twice. the only thing i would change about it would be to make the lights automatically turn off. i always leave them on and 3 times the first month i started driving i got down to my car after school to find the battery completely and utterly dead. so dead that i had to manually unlock it. luckily i have friends that took auto mechanics this year!
it's an automatic because after one incredibly scary experience driving my friends manual truck in which i left skid marks all along one of my neighborhood's roads i decided it would probably be in the best interest of myself and fellow drivers if i stuck with an automatic.

i've been driving since i was 17, and i have had four cars in the last five years (i'm 21 now).
the first car i had was an 86 station wagon...the thing ran like crazy, but whenever it rained i had to plug in the chip for the wipers (and would get shocked the whole time since i had to hold it there).
then i had a 92 ford taurus.....one window wouldnt roll down and it leaked tranny fluid by the bucket.....it just went kaput
then i had an 86 honda accord....piece of junk. roared, leaked, and wouldn't run after it would get under a certain temperature. the muffler fell off two times....i finally got it to the junkyard.
most recently, i had a 93 chrysler cirrus....pretty nice, aside from a slight tranny leak. but it just recently went kaput (huge electrical problem).
now i am relying on my mom and grandma for rides.
i need a car (before school starts.....FAST!!)

Wow it sounds like you have had your share with bad cars. I have a sugestion to make. I don't know if you did this already in the past but I would say pray for the next car that you are going to by.
I did about my truck and I know it dose not look like much but it drives and whats more is I know that I got it becuase God wanted me to. Not a doute in my mind. The good thing about it is that it has helped me trust him more. And I am thankfull for each time i can drive it becuase I know that its only by Gods grace that I get to where i want to go.

Its neat to get different prospectives on it. And well if you don't want to talk about cars you don't have to. Its really all your own choice. I presonaly kind of do because I grew up in a family where cars were big at the dinner table. And as you drive one you learn to relise that knowing about them is actully good.

Umm... I guess that's good. It would help if you girls spoke metric!!
Fuel is so expensive in Australia. It costs me almost $80 to fill up my car, and that will only last for 500km's. Makes me think twice before going anywhere.
My first car was a 1987 Holden Camira (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holden_Camira). A total bomb, but at least it started every time. It was auto, and used to "clunk" when it slowed down, because it skipped from 3rd gear to 1st. Everytime I drove over a bump, the boot (trunk) would pop open. I work on a dirt road, so I drove in every day with the boot wide open. It was dead embarrassing.
I sold that as soon as I started working full time. I now drive a 2000
Daewoo Nubira (http://auto.consumerguide.com/auto/used/reviews/full/index.cfm/id/2450/). It drives ok, tho it's playing up at the moment. But that should be fixed tomorrow. It constantly has a coat of dirt about 3" thick on it. Too many dirt roads around here to bother keeping it clean!
The car I really want is the Holden Vectra (http://www.holden.com.au/www-holden/action/modeloverview?modelid=3003). It has been my dream since before I ever owned a car at all. I'm just waiting for it to come down in price!!

Why is it that the cars we like are too expensive? I like the fuel economy cars because they are good for the environment and my pocket book. Shouldn't they be cheaper?
everything is expensive this day and age... aargh...so annoying
my first car was free for me....but it was a serious clunker...someone at my church bought a new car and the one they had before was on it's last legs so they gave it to me...it was a stick shift....which i didn't know how to drive...i learned pretty quickly though, after many yells and jeers from passerbys lots of laughter from other cars, and many tears later...

Found another one!! :)
While driving in Pennsylvania, a family caught up to an Amish carriage. The owner or the carriage obviously had a sence of humor, because attached to the back of the carriage was a hand printed sign... Energy efficient vehicle. Runs on oats and grass. Caution: Do not step in exhaust. :)

A minister parked his car in a no-parking zone in a large city because he was short of time and couldn't find a space with a parking meter. So he put a note under the windshield wiper that read: I have circled the block 10 times. If I don't park here, I'll miss my appointment. FORGIVE US OUR TRESPASSES.
When he returned, he found a citation from a police officer along with this note. I've circled this block for 10 years. If I don't give you a ticket, I'll lose my job. LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION

Wanna hear something funny...the brother instructing it had loosened all the bolts on one tire for a trick....he had me take them off (they pretty much fell off) and had this kid try one of the other tire and could not do it...so we were making fun of him that a girl was stronger than him...he didn't find out for a little while.

i know the basics of cars...like changing tires, changing brakes, fluid, and recently, i can now change spark plugs (or at least i know how.....if it came down to it!)....i've greased enough of them
You certainly know alot more than i do. Although its not hard to know more than me really. i have to ask my Dad or my bros whats up when something doesn't work right and most times i'm like 'duh why didn't i think of that.'

I think it is important for anyone who has a driver's License to know the basics, how to put gas in (I had a friend in Oregon who didn't know cause it's illegal to have self-serve pumps in Oregon), Change a tire, check tire pressure, check oil, radiator, transmission, and washer fluid levels. And know what the temperature gage means.

Check on all those. Wanna know something funny/scary? My car doesn't have a temperature gage, that was an extra that the original owner decided not to invest in. Oh, the year of my car? 1975 :D

no temp gage, that's scary
Yes In Oregon they decided they need jobs so bad that they make gas stations hire people to pump your gas for you.
one time my friend and I were headed to church in town(Oregon) and we ran over a nail and the tire thumped every time we ran over the nail so we spent 20 minutes try to figure out what the thump was, then I told her I could switch the tire out to the spare if we find a good place to do it(well lit). so we pulled in to the gas station and I started to work on it and the gas attendant came over and did it for us. I reminded him to loosen the bolts before raising the tire off the ground and to tighten the bolts after lowering it back down. In the end we did not make it to church that night.

Yeah. My dad really offended a guy that came over to pump our gas because he insisted on doing it himself. It was only when we got home that we learned about that law. It's awesome though, Oregon has no sales tax. Pretty cool.

I made Ruth get out and do it and they seemed fine with it. The pumpers don't seem too enthusiastic about their jobs, so they shouldn't care if it's less work for them.

Ha!!!! That is soo like my car. I've seen two hilarious license plate things recently. One was on a car older than my 1975 Maverick and the license plate said "Guzzler." My car is a pig! It wants more, more, more! It begs me for premium but I refuse. In response to my refusal, it killed the choke, just to spite me. But I outsmarted it and took it to a mechanic who not only fixed that, but also my signal lights. I told Helga if she was good, I might put premium in her sometime. :D The other funnny thing was on the license plate holder it said: "0-60 in 15 minutes." I want them for my car, but I don't agree with spending that much on a personalized plate for a 1975 hog named Helga. :D

Old Lady Driving
There is an old lady driving on Interstate 22. A police car pulls her over and explains to the lady she is going 22 mph.
She said 'I know, isn't that the speed limit? The officer said, 'No, this is interstate 22'.
The police officer looks in the back seat and there are three children looking quite ill. He asks her if they need help and she explains,
'No, we just left interstate 119.'
